Hi carrot, 2 days of CCA school would ends at 6pm. And if your child is taking the 2nd CCA, more time to spend on CCA. The other 3 days, usually ends at 1:30 or 2+. If you child is taking 3rd lang, one of the days would need to go Ghim Moh for it, ends at about 6+pm. One more day is for bonding between the peers support and new students (But I am not sure if they are changing this).

As I have always said in my previous, stress is due to the transition of primary to secondary. More subjects, more committment in CCA, new environment, new friends. Other than that, after 6 months, things are usually quite settle. 😄
        Hi Daisy,
Are you one of the advisers for clueless parents whose kids are going to rv. My girl is starting Y1 in rv next year. She's v keen on badminton and is hoping to get into the sch team. The training will be 3 times a wk and I'm worried her studies may be affected. On the other hand, it is an honour to represent the sch.
For students taking 2 cca, is it 1 day for 1 cca? Then they have to choose 2 cca that does not have training on the same day?
        :?

          Hi Sall

good for you! redhill to boon lay is definitely manageable. my son was disappointed that he couldn't go to IP school in the event that he couldn't get into hci or njc. i can only console him (and myself as well) that if he works hard , he may still get a chance to get into IP programme in sec 3.
Are you putting RV as one of the choices? I believe the students will have to do exceptionally well in sec 1 n 2 to get into IP prog in sec 3.

            Hi sall

i thought RV’s system works as such:

the kids will automatically be in the ip programme once admitted but the school will access the performance closely and if the kid is found to be unsuitable for the IP programme, the school will ask the kid to leave the school as early as in sec 2 but according to the Vice principal, this is v rare.
one forum member said the school will retain the student , not as serious as get kicked out…

            i am also confused already…

My opinion is that it is best to start IP right from sec 1. To me, IP isn't just about exemption from O level examination. It is cultivation of a thinking habit that is conducive for acquiring new knowledge independently with a critical mind. As far as I know, RV's IP require students to start this habit and started doing projects from sec 1. If one joins the programme only after sec 3, he will lack behind two years, not in term of knowledge, but in term of the thinking habit that other students already have two more years to immerse in.

The above should be the key difference between Ip and O level track. So I don't see much merit in any IP schools that only offer to teach their students a little more than O level content, then exempt themselves from O level exam, and proceed to their affiliated JC. This should not be the case.

Haha, I am not the advisor.
Actually I am not very sure how the 2 CCAs work because they only start this system after the year of my child. Justsay can give us a better idea, her child is in this system. With 1 CCA, my child is already spending a lot of time on CCA. I cannot imagine if its 2.

So far as what I know, they would promote you with conditions. On the progress report, it would not state PROMOTE. I cannot remember exactly the words they use. So far, I have not heard of get kick out because of results.

                      Hi sall,

Daisyt's dd is in year 2 going year 3 when school reopens. Since this year, all year 1 students are to take 1 core CCA - 2 days per week and 1 secondary CCA - 1 day (they call it IDP, sports). It is compulsary, unless the core CCA is a sport then the training will be 3 days per week and IDP is not required. Therefore all students are require to stay for CCA 3 days per week.
The students will go for audition when school reopens for all CCAs and school will alocate them according to their strength /talent to match their choices.
As for the day of training, school has set aside Tues and Fri for core CCA and the remaining days are for IDP so there wont be clashes of time.
I am not sure will there be any changes next year though.
