      Hi lakesidemum,

My gals are in N2, they are early birds since birth (can't sleep past 7am plus...)and that's why I got to make sure that they can get into the morning session...by 1-2pm, they will need their nap...your gal not napping anymore?

I am considering to go for trial at JE too...but got to arrange on weekday evening since their weekend mornings are occupied, but then worried that they will not get enough sleep since they need to wake up early the next day...

btw, do you intend to sign up your gal for the speech and drama enrichment at JCK? do you find it good? the price is pretty attractive though.

Time and $$$ is limited, so still scratching head what is necessary and what is good to have....based on what your ds has gone through so far, do you find the curriculum good enough or academic enrichments are still needed? I am more concerned about maths now as I find that my gals tend to be weaker in grasping maths concepts compared to language development...

      Thanks for your sharing again...
      Hi sean wife,

Well, my kids are night owls, they don't sleep till 10 plus, hence they can not make it for the 1st session, as they will wake up at 8-9 plus. My gal does napped in the afternoon, normally about 3-4pm. So going for the 2nd session is nice for her.

My kids will be going for the MPM/Jelic on Sat morning classes, and you are right, they are very full for weekend classes. As for the enrichments, my boy attended the chinese drama program organised by JCK previously for a term, they are quite good, but just that, my boy was too tired cos with this drama class on sat morning, he practically had classes everyday. So withdraw him out. Currently, he is attending Lcentral, Tien Hsia and MPM Maths. Wow... sounds so ks, but my hubby and I agree in setting sound foundation during their pre-schools.

In my opinion, JCK does a very good job in preparing the kids for Primary. The spelling lists that my boy had during his K1 days are \"equivalent\" to many other kindy in their K2s.. after making some comparsion. Hence, I feel that they are pretty academically focused.

        Hi lakesidemum,

Thanks for sharing…sounds like JCK is indeed a good school which doesn’t come with a hefty price tag. BTW, may I know spelling starts at which term of K1?

I just visited MPM at JE this morning…the lady mentions there’s a jelic class at 10am, guess that must be the class your gal is going to…there’s also a MPM class on-going then.

Ha, I think we are all ks parents here…just to different extent…what about your gal? other than jelic, is she also in Lcentral and tsien xia? My gals are in berries…

Hi, if I am not wrong spelling started in his term 2. Well, at that time, as I was still a FTWM, I was not aware he had spelling weekly, and luckily due to his Lcentral lessons, he was able to spell the words without my coaching, and he managed to get all correct. It was only during the end of term 2 Meet-the-parents session that I realised there was spelling in that term. Thereafter, I made sure he prepared for his spelling, and that was when the \"motions\" started, ie which there are spelling for both english and chinese, and the weekly homework.

Yes, for Jelic, my gal is on sat 10am and my boy in MPM from 9-11am. So if you could get your gal in at 10 too, then they can study together.

Besides Jelic, she will also be attending the phonics class at MMI Jurong West enrichment centre on Sat noon. So you see, I will need to rush her over to JW at 12nn for her phonics.. goodness.. hope she is able to manage. Well, she is currently attending the workgroup at MMI on a daily basis, hence decided to continue her at their weekly phonics class since montessori phonics is not bad too.

Right now, no chinese enrichment for her yet, might start her at TS next year too. Have not decide yet.

Hope to meet you Jelic, since our gals are in different sessions at JCK, so not likely to be able to meet you at JCK..

            Hi lakesidemum,

My gals also attended weekend MMI workgroup at JW centre for about 4-5 months beginning of the year...but i thought I don't see much progress from what they already know thus stopped them. I was told that the MMI phonics class is for minimum 3.5 yrs old...is that true or you can enrol her younger since she's from the daily class? oh btw, the same MMI centre also has maths enrichment class on sat right? u think jelic is better than that?

Unlike your gal, I dun think mine can rush from one class to another on a weekend day...somehow I thought that might be very tiring for them and they may end up not learning much from their 2nd class....so I always wonder how some parents can arrange for 5-6 enrichments for their kids every week?? I guess it's not so bad if it's a non-academic enrichment after a academic one...of course, that's just my one-cent worth...

Lcentral sounds good...why would you rather send your gal to MMI than Lcentral?

Hi, you're right, the phonics class at MMI has a minimum age of 3.5 years old, and my gal is marginally close to that as she is a July baby. In fact, they did not ask me on her age as it's more of a continuation for her from her daily workgroup. Well, I do agree with that, perhaps for weekly workgroup, she might not benefit much as it's just that short 2 hours a week. However, for daily, they shld be able to do more. As my gal likes her teachers, so decided to continue her at the phonics class, and not Lcentral. Part reason is the fee, Lcentral costs more. Furthermore, I was highly recommended by a mummy that her son went thru the same phonics class, and he is able to read well thereafter. Hence, there she is, at MMI.

Coming to the close timing of the enrichment, to be honest, I have the same worries, but somehow, I do not have much of a choice, cos the phonics class was fixed since couple of months back and the only new class, and for the Jelic class, the only available class is sat morning. Tue evening not possible as I need to fetch my son to TS.... goodness..

Will try out for a term and see how, if she is too tired, then I will do something about it.

                Hi lakesidemum,

Like to check with you, do you sign your ds up for any enrichments around jurong area during the school holidays? Actually I am quite worried about how to occupy my kids during the June and Dec holidays. They are currently in half-day childcare, thus the caregivers are kind of used to them not around for a few hours each day, so that they can do their own things during that time… thus I’ll need to try to fill up their holiday time with some enrichment programs, else they may drive the caregivers crazy…haahaa…I even thought of signing up them for june and nov/dec classes at the MMI workgroup if all else fails…

Hi, no, I did not sign him up for any hols program. But maybe you can consider the TS hols program. It's on now till Dec. It's an either 3, 4 or 5 full days workshop. Quite interesting, and the kids get to visit places.

We will be leaving for an overseas trip next week, so will just let him have a good rest, before a new hectic year ahead.

                    Hi lakesidemum,

Have you received any call from the bus operator about the pickup time yet? me still waiting…are you staying near to lakeside mrt? I am staying near the old boon lay market, wondering how early the bus needs to come…

BTW, my gals had 2 jelic lessons so far, but it’s on weekday evening…we’ll probably sign up for the full-term next year…how many boxes does your gal do each time? Mine only did 3 boxes each time…actually although the lesson supposed to be 75 mins, they were already playing by themselves when we went to peep at them less than an hour into the lesson…checked with the trainer, she say that kids at this age doesn’t have very long attention span so it’s enough to complete boxes…content-wise, I find it quite OK lah, but it’s really not cheap considering it’s really like a self-learning thing and we’re just like paying for using the materials…

Hi, I am not expecting to rec any call from the bus operator, cos my gal will be taking the same bus with her brother, and the timing will be the same as this year. Well, normally, they will call only days before schools start, so perhaps, if they still did not contact you the last week of dec, you might want to give them a call. Since your gal is in the earlier session, be expected the bus to pick up your gal as early as 7.40am.

For jelic, my intention is to try my gal out for a term, cos I do agree with you that it's really ex, and it all depends on the child. For my gal, she only attended once for the trial, and she only did 1 box then. But apparently, she enjoys the lesson, and she like the teacher too. So will monitor her progress when she starts her term in Jan 11.
