      Bay:
Anyone thinking of transferring their DS/DD to a school with secondary affilation?

Rosyth is an excellent primary school. The only setback is that she has no affiliation to any secondary school. I'm thinking of transferring my ds to one with affiliation. Just to buy my ds a safety net for PSLE. However, both my ds and I have developed a strong bond with Rosyth and I'm constantly in a dilemma. Parents, do you think it's a wise choice to change?

All parents are welcome to advice. Maybe P6 parents can give their thoughts on this and give me some advice. With the PSLE result out recently, would you have change your child to one with affiliation if given the choice?
I am not in the best position to advise you but I share your concern. My dd is p3 next yr too. While going thru' the psle thread, I was horrified to notice that the secondry schools COP for students fm their own affiliated pri school and those from non-affiliated pri schools can differ by more than 10 pts ....

Given your ds excellent results, he has very high chance of going to gep in p4. You will probably have to look for a pri school with affiliation and offers gep.

KeeKee, Thanks for sharing. Yes, the COP for schools with affiliation can be 10 to 20 points lower. It’s a huge difference.

In fact ds got a place in a school with sec affiliation since the beginning of school holiday. But I was in a dilemma whether to accept the offer since ds was adamant to transfer.

I finally relented yesterday. So ds will continue in Rosyth. Just hope I’ll not live to regret my decision. Glee! Stressful being parents! Will have to purchase the text books this weekend.

Ds is not the independent, self-study type. So obviously not the GEP type. But then curious to find out what is tested in GEP? Anyone, any ideal?

Keekee, your dd will still have a chance to go to I/A class next year. Keep encouraging her. I know of a boy who is not from I/A but did very well this year. He’s posted to P5 I next year. Every year, there are children moving in/out of these 2 classes. So everyone will get a fair chance. But kids who are posted out of I/A can be devastating for them if too much emphasis is place on the class.

As for your question to the range for I and A class, a parent once told me that a general rule is to score all above 90. But then it also depends on how well the whole level does. Hope this helps.

          Hi parents,

My son will be in P2 when school re-open next year. My question: What do we need to bring on the first day of school for P2? Everything or the bare minimal (i.e. pencil case, student handbook)?

          thanks!

I am a new mummy for soon-to-be primary school going kid. My girl will be attending P1 next week. Would appreciate some advice on what I need to pack in her bag?

Also any mummies or caregivers doing car pool arrangement here? I stay around Balestier area.

            Regards

              Hi Oceanic,

Did you receive a list of wat to bring from the sch for 1st 2 days? Besides that, just bring a sandwich or snack in case the queue is long at the canteen. Water bottle & a hanky? Are you taking leave on 1st day? Best to be there for them at least for 1st day.

                Hi,

Since you son is already in P2, bare minimal should be enough lah. In case there is long queue in canteen, maybe pack a sandwich or snack for him? Don't think they will do much on 1st day, just pack the necessary will do I guess.

                        Hi awhuang,

Thanks for the advice but I did not receive any list from Rosyth on what to pack in her bag? Have noted the school bags sold in the shops are quite big for my girl’s small frame, so I bought one that was much smaller. I will just pack her pencil case and exercise book, plus some food n water for 1st day and will accompany her for first two days or so.
