...What is the diff between a SAP sch & a normal sch? Any past years PSLE results or feedbacks of Holy Innocents? How do you compare normal Sec with Holy Innocents Sec? Though there's an afiliation, the sec must also be abv average, what you think? Will you put yr child's sch in priority or yr choice of flats, meaning will you sacrifice for yr kids and shift to another district which you're not familar with? This decision making has been troubling me b'cos my office is very near Telok Blangah where I'm staying....

Hi mibebepriciosio, have you read http://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/content/choosing-primary-school-singapore yet? We have tried to crystallize all the wisdom of our community into this article to explain how parents should choose a primary school for their children.

I don't know much about Holy Innocent's High school... but I suspect it does not have much to do with the attraction of HIPS, which can pretty much stand alone based on its SAP and academic performance.

It's a tough decision to have to choose between making it convenient for yourself or for your child in terms of home location, especially with ERP gantries literally splitting the country in 2.

        chiefkaisu,

Yah. For a few of us mothers on another forum, we were watching pretty closely for HIPs...heehee

No wonder... you all drive up HIPS' stock as a result of this intense interest => HIPS' applicants to vacancies ratio for Phase 2B is 139% vs 119% last year! There will be balloting... the question is for which distance group.

Then again, it's probably more due to the fact that the school \"lost\" 30 vacancies vs the last 2 years 😛 .

it's because the school lost 30 applications lah. Nothing to do with us...hahaha

Cos looking at the require need to ballot, it's probably the 2km and above. And there should be around 7 seats left and 22 people balloting. If HIPS kept the 30 seats (i.e. 15 ...divide by phase 2B and 2C), then actually there would not had been the need to ballot at all! =(

              Hi KS_me,

Unfortunately, I will have to agree with icebaby that there is very likely to be balloting for Hougang Primary for less than 1km in Phase 2C. The average TUR for Phase 2B is already 55%, higher than last year's 46%. In the previous 2 years, Hougang Primary required balloting for less than 1km in Phase 2C.

                  Hi KC & icebaby

I am now looking for backup school since Hougang Pri is most likely into balloting within 1km, just in case…

I know I will have no problem getting into Monfort Junior looking at the taken up rate but I prefer a mix school for my son. Now I can’t distinguish which is better, YCK or Punggol, both within 1km.

                  Do you have any idea?

                  Thanks for your advise.

Between YCK and Punggol, I'll go for Punggol, coz Punggol is <1km for me but not YCK

                      Hi everyone

I’m new and so glad to see this web now (though a bit late).

I’m also having headache which to send my gal to, Holy Innocents (between 1 to 2km) or CHIJ OLN (<1km).

My 2 gals are born in 2002, 2004 and a boy 2008. My concerns were things like whether 1 session or 2 sessions school is easier for me and if I send my elder gal to CHIJ, i need to go thru this P1 registration again for my boy. My gal is strong in Chinese so HIPS will be good. But on the other hand, I also think that CHIJ english speaking environment will improve her English Lang. I’m under phase 2C for both schools, so if she can’t get in HIPS, she may even lost her seat in CHIJ, then Punggol Pri will be my last resort (also <1km).

I missed the open house visit for CHIJ, how’s the environment? Small? How’s the principal and teachers? I called up today and i spoke to a lady which maybe the admin, to see if any chance to visit the school this weekend, she’s not friendly and helpful at all. Give me impression i’m nuisance and she jus want to hang up the phone.

Is HIPS school work v heavy? Do they emphasize on work play balance and character building?

Thanks in advance for any information provided.

At this point in time, it's actually quite easy for you decide... since you do not stay within the 1km hotzone to Holy Innocents (HIPS), you are unlikely to even get a chance to ballot in Phase 2C. Demand for HIPS has gone off the charts this year. It will have to be OLN for you. If you want HIPS for your son, you need to remember to PV before 30 June 2013.
