Try out the TCM way. I have a customer who has such bad water retention until her whole arm is swollen, we get her to boil Chinese barley and the 'cooked' barley (生熟意米) to drink as plain water daily. After taking for about 2wks, she recovered totally. She is very happy as she is looking good again for CNY! 😄

No need to add sugar, chinese barley has the effect of letting us pass urine, with the 'cooked' barley the effect is even better. So this drink is let us pass out the extra water. Cheap and effective way.

What is Chinese barley and \"cooked\" barley?
Both can get from chinese medical shop?
How much to add of each kind of barley each time?

Would like to try as got quite bad water retention too.

      Thanks

Yes, can get from chinese medical shop. I think most shop have pre-packed as this is also a cooling tea that can take by all. If they never pre-packed, just tell them to give you 150gm of 生意米 and about 40g of 熟意米, then add 2 pcs of 灯心花. Shouldn't cost you more than $1.50/pack.

wow, i will try it out. but will it be too cooling :?

Don't worry, it won't be too cooling. Just that you might visit the loo much more often. Actually there is a misconception that Chinese barley is cooling. To be exact, Chinese barley action is to get rid of excess water, in fact, it is also used for rheumatism. Quite unbelievable, right? But that is the truth, as it is recorded in the TCM 'dictionary'

Try drinking lemongrass tea which is good for water retention.

Another blended tea you can try is the "detox tea" at Perfect Potion (shop at Parkway Parade and United Square). The detox tea comes pre-mix. Can’t remember what are the various tea leaves used - there’s quite a fair bit. But it does help in cleansing the body. And if you do take this tea, avoid drinking it in the evening. It can keep one awake. I usually take this after lunch or in the afternoons.

Just curious... what do we do with it? Soak our body in the sea salt water?
