      jenybc:
      Dear Parents,

I do admit that I did not planned and have had regretted it deeply.

Yes, I am those that think its not \"so cool\" to be Kiasu for Pri 1 registration in one of the thread listed... and much regretted it now deeply. ๐Ÿ˜ข :stupid:

Anyone know if you stay within 0.54km of St Hilda's Primary School, will the chance of getting into this school via 2C phase be easlier? Pls help...

      Thank you very much...

      from the much regretted me
and learning to be a kiasu parent...jenybc
Hi jenybc, don't worry... it's not the end of the world if you cannot get into St. Hilda's. If you think it is important enough, you can:
      1. Put yourself in the waiting list.
      2. Help your daughter do well in her P1 and P2 and apply for transfer to St Hilda's in P3 which has more students per class.

As far as we can tell, your chance of getting into St Hilda's is at MOST 1 in 3... it could be as bad as 1 in 4. Balloting is almost guaranteed for those staying less than 1km, which you are, so thats a good thing. Unfortunately, being 0.5km away does not give you any advantage over the person 0.99km away... you are all in the same bucket.

      Recommended strategy for you:
      1. Look at all the other schools in http://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/content/tampines. Choose those whose TUR reaches 100% by Phase 2C, ie Chongzheng, East Spring, Gongshan, Poi Ching, and St Hilda's.

      2. Further eliminate all those that are more than 1km away. You will not even get to ballot in these schools.

      3. Now look at the next set of schools that traditionally have space in Phase 2C(S) (ie. Changkat, East View, Griffiths, Junyuan, Qiaonan, Tampines North, Tampines Primary, and Yumin). Select the ones which will reach 100% by the end of Phase 2C Sup, or at least close to it, eg. Tampines North.

      4. So you now have a set of schools which you can feasibly consider.
      - If you are a risk taker, you have to ensure that you can live with failure in Phase 2C, ie. that the 2nd tier school you are targeting is \"good enough\" for you.
      - If you are adverse to risk, then go get the school which may require balloting in Phase 2C(S) NOW, by Phase 2C.

      Good luck.

thank you very much for the pointers...

so you meant that even if I'm only 0.56km away from the school, chances is that I would need to be ballot.. ๐Ÿ˜ข

and yes, i think i should start looking at other schools too.... and also ๐Ÿ™

          Hi Chief and all~ :salute:

hahah, wandering how many are like me still up reading thru the forum~ really digested quite a number of information and i think have more or less finalised my option...

for me, my girl will be staying with my mama and so will be using my mama's address for registration this wed/thurs... poi ching would be our top choice thou if circumstances permit; we are 2.5km away and transport part a bit tricky... choice school now will be gonshang as we are dangerously near; just within the 1km mark... just have to try our luck to see if we can get in... backup will be tampines north primary which is just next o my mama's place...

          keeping our fingers cross... ๐Ÿ™

Looks like you have really done your homework - good for you! Now you can relax, because no matter whether you get into your school of choice, you know you have already done your best and the rest (eg. luck) is not within your control, so no point worrying about it at all.

Here is my plan, for Phase 2C. Though we live <1KM>2KM), and the 2nd choice would be ST Antony's Canossian (< 2 KM).

We intend to go on Fri at about 3.30pm, to register, thus ensuring our chance in CHIJ. Wish me success... ๐Ÿ™

Thank you chief, for all the input you have given us, opps also :thankyou: to the rest of the team.

Sure, mum03... good luck for your plans... though we can't really see what they are because of the system snipping of your post! Try not to use the angle brackets (less than/greater than signs). The system will try to interprete text inside the brackets and throw them away if it doesn't understand.

Oopps I forgot about that, it should be:

Though we live less then 1Km away from St Hildas, it was never our choice for our DD, Thus we are planning for CHIJ katong more then 2 KM and the 2nd choice is St Antonyโ€™s Canossian 1-2 Km away.
                      Now it make sense HEHEeeeeeee

                        Hi Chief,

You mentioned Red Swastika as a pretty good school. It is betty than Zhongshan or Chongzheng?

Btw, anyone has comments about Tampines Primary School? I know this school has a lot of interesting initiatives but not so sure about how good the school is.

Red Swastika has a much better academic record than either Gongshang and Chongzheng. All 3 are very popular schools and require balloting under Phase 2C.

Tampines Primary is a small school and not as popular amongst Tampines residents. It did manage to produce a top 10 PSLE student in 2006, though. The question is whether that is a fluke or if the school has really got the processes to continue doing so.

Tampines Primary School is the seed school of Confucius Institute. I happened to attend their new book launch of ๅ„’ๅญๅญฆๅ ‚ on 25/7/09 by chance, while waiting for my daughter when she attended her class at Confucius Institute. Very impressed by the talk given by the principle. Holistic education, moral education guided by ๅ„’ๅฎถๆ€ๆƒณ, and character development is the main focus of the school. Intend to do PV for the school to know the school better. Very likely TPS meets the criteria of my dream school ๐Ÿ™
