BTW , which school is balloting on which date will be publish by MOE right ?
we just need to ask the school what time and we can go and see. -
at 4.25pm i was at kong hwa and was told that 1 to 2 km will do balloting
there are 21 or 22 applicants for 13 seats -
Ljas1370:
Sorry I'll like to correct Kong Hwa is temporary shifting to Macpherson Sec School at Circuit Road and not Ubi Road.Maybe it's because they are shifting to Ubi temporary for 2 year starting Year 2010. I heard Ubi area is always jam in the morning & evening time when ppl goes to work or come back from work.
But it's still too early to say. There may be a group of crowd just waiting for last min to register.
We'll only know when the result comes out tomorrow. -

Hi parent,
Now there is a 'hot' topic about Primary one registration. It has an impact to me especially my girl will be entering P1 the year after next. My neighbour's son managed to get in as last ballot. Sounds so difficult. Few questions:
1) How well are they compare to Tao Nan?
2) At times I can see our neighbourhood's children studying at MBS, they seems to me as not well mannered. Sometimes can even hear unpleasant words. Is MBS standard so terrific?
3) How does MBS set the standard for better ones and average students?
3) Somehow I overheard that MBS is not so stressful on the academic, it is a relief to some parents? Will this affect the academic standard?
Please share and let me know more about MBS.
Thanks
cheers -
Hi,
Let me try to address some of your questions.
You may refer to Kiasuparents ranking to see how it compare to TNS. MBS is currently ranked at no. 11 by academic excellence. TNS meanwhile is above top 10.
Meanwhile for unpleasant words, I believe there are always "black sheep" in every school. For that, we cannot just depend on the school but alot also depend on the parents’ support as well. My mum used to stay just ooposite TNS so we’ve neighbours’ kids going there as well. I wouldn’t say all TNS kids are angels. If I were to say that my nephew from Rosyth also mentioned those words, does it mean that it is not a good school? Kids come from different family background and they have different kind of influence and values at home, we cannot really control that, we can only educate/ guide our own kids accordingly. So realistically speaking, I still believe there are black sheep in each school no matter how "good" they are. Eg. yesterday we heard our son uttered some words that is not accepted at home. He got it big time from us. I told my kids that the next time they hear their bus mates saying that, tell me and I will write to the level mgr or principal and get them to talk to the kids about it.
MBS does streaming for chinese starting from P1 after SA1. Purpose is to group kids according to their chinese std. The stronger ones go to a big class (sometimes as big as 35 +). The weaker ones go to smaller class size so that they can get more attn.
Yes, there are not alot of homework in P1 and P2. Not sure if this is the case for lower primary only. My sil shared with me that when my Rosyth nephew was in lower primary, he didn’t have much homework too but when he reaches P3 this year, it increases signifcantly. I suppose they try to do most of the work in school. Homework are usually work that the kids cannot complete in school. As for std, I suppose the std is not compromise due to amt of homework. If you look at the trend, alot of "popular schools" are actually giving less homework while the "neighbourhood schools" are doing the opposite. If parents are still willing to pay for MBS past yr paper, I supposed it speak about the std as well. -

Thanks for that. Probably you are right, just a concern that raise. Hopefully that if happens that my kid managed to get in MBS, she will not get such influence. I will also have to ensure that she is well-mannered too.

can anyone comment on Eunos Primary School please.
Hi Candymum,
In Geylang area - Kong Hwa & Geylang Methodist Primary School are the most recommendable schools.
In Marine Parade - Tao Nan & Ngee Ann Primary School are the most recommendable schools.
Incase of child being balloted out of any of the above schools, I would recommend Tangjong Katong in Marine Parade. Eunos Primary will be better than MacPherson Primary School. You can look at their website to see their PSLE results for last year. Pls do not choose MacPherson Primary. My son was in MacPershon for P1 & P2. They have alot of foreign student especially those from China, Myammar and also other countries. Worst thing is that those from China, as they are not very good in English. You can see a China Student of 10 years old end up in P1 class. My son's case is a good example. These china students whol are quite big built end up bullying those P1 students of smaller size. My son was being bullied by a China Student of 10 years old in his 2 years in MacPherson. They steal his stationieries, bullied him. Everyday, he has to drag himself to go to school. Now I have transferred him to Geylang Methodist Primary, he is happier in Geylang Methodist.
