      Thanks Tang, appreciate your help .... I was using the Dr Fong Ho Kheong Maths guide and he was illustrating this kind of problem using the model approach ... then I realised that a typical qn will have both constrains as constant or same thus using model to illustrate the 2 differences will easily solve the problem .... however, this problem itself, only the mass of the bag of rice is constant, the packets varies (depending on the mass packed either 5kg or 7kg)thus probably it will be easier solve using the list strategy or the guess and check methology.

      There are many more examples of such questions solved using model drawings. For your reference.

        Kindly help with these qns

        1) Wendy had 55 more stickers than Susan.
        After Wendy give away 155 of her stickers to Yvonne
        Susan had 3 times as many stickers as Wendy
        How many stickers did Susan have?

        2) There are 400 pupils in Primary Three.
        288 pupils like Mathermatics and 182 pupils like Science.
        All pupils like at least Mathermatics or Science.
        How many pupils like both Mathermatics and Science?

        Thank you

            1.

            155-55 = 100
            3u-1u=2u =>100
            3u=>150

            Susan has 150 stickers

            2.

            288+182-400=70

            70 pupils like both

                      Sorry I have made a silly and careless mistake.
                      It should be 70.

                        Hi,

                        I have this Maths problem from Pei Chun P3 SA2 2008. Pls help. Thanks.

                        Grandpa has some stamps. If he gives 6 stamps to each of his grandchildren, he will have 5 stamps left over. If he gives 8 stamps to each of his grandchildren, he will be hsort of 9 stamps.

                        a) How many grandchildren does Grandpa have?

                        b) How many stamps does Grandpa have?
