candymum:
what happen if I cannot get in to eg. Tanjong Katong Pri. Can I then apply for Eunos Pri provided they still have vacancies. Or will govt allocate me any school.
Hi!
If you are not successful in Phase 2C Supplementary (touch wood), you can apply for another school in Phase 3. Phase 3 registration will be on a first-come-first-serve basis.
The government will only allocate the child to the nearest school with vacancies after Phase 3. -
tks qms. I don’t know whether to take the risk or not. Tanjong Katong got 54 vacancies and Eunos Pri got 71. Both more than 2km for me. Tanjong Katong got ballot for 2c supp last yr, Eunos Pri don’t have.
I would think Eunos Pri better chances to get in.
But I just wonder why Eunos Pri not so popular. -

I think you can check with MOE, while phase 2C still going on,I called them and check during phase 2C supp if child cannot get school of choice then what will happen. The officer said actually you will be provided with additional choices in the registration form in case the school you register need to ballot and you are not successful..., so you will be ask to fill in first choice, second choice, etc. Then MOE will post according to your choice. But kindly make another call to MOE to confirm this again. Cheers and good luck! -

Those unsuccessful in Tao Nao, Kong Hwa and Geylang Methodist Primary will go for Ngee Ann but this school only left with 4. The next school will be Tanjong Katong Primary School. Tangjong Katong is more popular than Eunos becos it is so called an international school. Alot of foreign students too. They have a lot of variety of sports eg. bowling etc which other schools don't have. I guess Eunos Primary is less popular becos it is in Eunos area which is quite jam in the morning & evening time when ppl goes to work and come back from work. Please do not get despair, starting doing researching for those schools you are keen to put your child in. Make sure that during the 2 years in the school not of your choice, your child is prepared acdemically for her to enter another school when comes to P3. One school I know is Kong Hwa, they want to see your child's result before they consider whether to allow your child to their school when comes to P3. -

I forgot to tell u, for school transfer, valid reason must be given to the current school otherwise the current school will not approve the transfer and even if the new school can accept your child. For my elder son case is a good example. MacPherson Primary and Geylang Methodist Primary are just 2 bus stop away. So I cannot give the reason that GMPS is near my house becos both schools are in the same zone. I also cannot give the reason that GMPS is better than MacPherson. My hubby spoke to the ex-GMPS principal and she was very honest to tell him that. She said the only way is to work as a PV for GMPS for my second son and used this as an excuse that I am currently working as a PV for GMPS and I am tranferring my elder son over to GMPS becos I want both of them to be in the same school. MOE treats all primary schools the same. There is no such thing as this school is better than the other school. I hope this info will help you as well. GOOD LUCK and the most important thing don't stress yourself. -
Hi Ljas1370,
tks very much for sharing yr experience. you are very kind. -

No problem. I was once in your shoe so can understand the stress that you have. Honestly speaking, some neighbourhood schools are better than those popular school. One of these schools is Changkrat Primary School. It is a neighbourhood school. My niece is currently studying in that school. She was accepted by St Hilda's Primary becos she got into the GEP program. But my sister decided to like her continue studying at Changkrat because of transportation problem. Even she was accepted as a GEP student, the current school still provide supplementary classes for her which I was very surprised because since P1 - P3 she has been in the Top 3 in class and since P1 she has gone for supplementary class. I heard of a popular school in the east area which only focus on smart students because they want to make sure that the school's standard won't drop. So there are pros & cons of putting your child in a good school. My elder son was very lucky to have a good form teacher at GMPS. She is very responsible and frequently update me thru email of his progress. It all depends on luck. -
Hi Ljas1370,
I’m going to apply for Canossa Convent Primary. It’s nearer for me than Tanjong Katong, so most probably got better chances. It’s a nice school for girls. they are selected for PRIME upgrading two yrs later.
will worry next yr for my son. but will have experience by then.
leaving now. will let you know the outcome. tks for everything. -

Hi, I stumbled upon this forum while researching for a school project. I saw this thread and I'd like to contribute about Haig Girls' School...
Thanks, isabellaswan8! I'm sure you have put to rest and helped make up the minds of loads of parents who are still dithering on whether to place their girl in Haig Girls'.
