i bought the PT-90 cos can print cartoons on the catridge with many fonts. i asked the person to show me how to use and relatively quite easy. i forgot to ask what kind of batteries though -

Yeah, the PT-90 looks good. $35 with voucher, but no Angry Birds pouch. Cannot resist the temptation, so bought 1 as a gift for my nephews and niece.
As for DS, he prefers Tz tape which doesn't fade and better quality. So, at the end, we bought a PT-1280 which comes with 2 tapes - 4m black on white and 8m black on yellow. Bundled price $57.
Was thinking of Dymo printers - thought it's good that it can print on paper, plastic, iron-on tapes. But the quality is about the same as the M tape, may fade too.
Just hope that DS won't pester me for Angry Birds stickers customized with English and Chinese names...
The Brother temp sale staff said only 10% discount for tapes at Bookfest. Can get 20% discount if buy at Popular outlets with the 20% discount voucher. -

I've bought PT-1290 @ $59.90 from BookFest , and I think for the same price, PT-1290 is slightly better than PT-1280 in terms of memory, font size, symbols available, repeat print, and no of characters to print.brother has a booth at sitex with deals for labellers:

PT-1290 should be a newer product compared to PT-1280, but 1280 at Sitex has free gift lah. -

Hi SunshineJust come back from Popular bookshop.
Brother:
PT-80 $29.90
PT-90 $39.90
PT-1280 $49.90
PT-1290 $69.90
M tape: $16
Tz tape: $24.20
Dymo
100H $39.90
100T $49.90
Tape 4m: $11.50
Didn't see the Casio.
For label printer, the price is already indicated Nett. So, no further discount with 20% voucher. No indication of Nett on the tape.
Brother PT-1290 @ BookFest is $59.90 (nett) only. I believe other models are priced lower in BookFest than in Popular stores. -
Picolo:
I think the significant differences between the PT-1290 and PT-1280 are PT-1290 can do \"deco mode\" (more interesting) and it has 2 fonts and more styles.

DS and I couldn't decide on PT-1290 or PT-1280 in Bookfest, price difference was only $2.90. At the end, we chose PT-1280 because it came with 1 extra tape (which may cost $20+), which would definitely come in handy. We were not sure whether we have compatible power adaptor at home and whether we want to use the adaptor - or we want it to be \"mobile\", handheld and carry around... Anyway, as of current, we don't really need the fancy decoration and the number of fonts doesn't make much difference to DS who is going to P1. -

Actually, I was also interested in the high-end models which can print Chinese characters, but felt that they are too highly priced (around $190 to $290) as I won't be using label machines very often. Furthermore, it's very cumbersome to link the machine to the computer each time you have to use it. The high-end ones are designed more for office use to print barcodes.
But between 1280 & 1290, since the price differential isn't a lot, I think I will still choose 1290 since it offers more choices. After all, label machines can last for many years and our needs change with time. I personally like the \"deco mode\" very much. -
hi picolo,
thanks for the comparison and update on pricing. looks like the offers at bookfest and sitex are the same. will try to pop down to bookfest if i can find the time. i think i’m pretty set on PT-1290 since the price difference (bet 1290 and 1280) is rather minimal.
