Montfort Junior
-
I've been to Montfort Junior & Sec (accompany students) and I personally find that their boys are polite & I see alot of initiative in the boys. Boys will be boys, they will be mischevious & sometimes disruptive.
So far the students I know from Montfort are all well-rounded students who do well (maybe not top top top type, but good enough to go to a decent course in local uni) & I've very good impressions of them.
This is one of my shortlisted schools too (MSHS is my first choice, this is my 2nd). I also recommend parents to consider Montfort Sec as one of their choices for boys taking PSLE. You need to physically visit the school a few times before you can make a decision
It's good to visit during normal school days & during events. You'll be surprised at how good the boys are when it comes to organising school events! -
Thanks to parents for contributing the feedback. I personally dun think tht Monfort is ‘naughty boy’ sch as well.
As a lot of people mentioned, ALL BOYs environment is nosiy and rowdy. There may be some Sec boys that we had seen with unfavourable behaviour in the neighborhood , But open your eyes, this occurs in other schs as well - sure there will be a bunch with unfav behaviour that wants to seek attention.
Monfort is one of my 2nd choice, but now my agony is should i travel all the way down fr SK to HG if I cant get into my first choice in SK area.
I thought the advantage of near a sch is very impt so that my children can enjoy their pri sch days and participate in any CCAs they like ( I am a working mum so encounter transport difficulty to let child stay back after sch for CCAs when they are young) -

What is your first choice? Nan Chiau/ Seng Kang Pri? Both ok sch.

I understand that there is a new principal at Montfort. Would someone please comment on how this new principal is? Also, how are the teachers there? Are they good, motivated, patient, and nurturing? I’ve seen some very impatient and not very nurturing teachers in a neighborhood school that really makes me worry about the type of teachers teaching our children.

Buzybuzz, I would appreciate it if you could comment on my question regarding the new principal at Montfort Junior and also the quality of the teachers there since you have a child in Montfort Junior. Thanks!

Hi I realise the new principal is rather young and I heard she is quite firm about things. Maybe as kiasu parents we should be more proactive like writing to her and ask her what are her plans for the school. Montfort used to be a rather good school but the standard (especially in the academic areas) has not improved over the years.

hihi
My 2 boys r frm MJS, elder one now in sec sch. Fr my 8 years’ experience with the school, I guess it is not a fantastic tier 1 sch (not my first choice either) but not really a gangster school either. The top students from past few yrs have gone on to RI & HCI and the good ones get opportunities to participate in competitions such as math olympaid, NSW papers etc. It has some good teachers (my son has a really fantastic and dedicated form teacher this year) and the boys (my sons’ classmates) are well behaved and motivated (thanks to teacher). My gripe is with the previous principal (I think she focused too much on organising high publicity events/initiatives that are probably good for herself and her teachers’ CVs/promotion prospects, which I feel add little value to the students). Not too sure about the new principal as she just took over but my son says she is very strict. I think she is a young and upcoming MOE high flyer so may have some bright ideas and could be receptive to parents’ feedback. -
thanks for the info, lowmama. I agree with you on the past culture of the school. Just hope the new principal will do some restructuring.
