By the way, is it true that Maha Bodhi now do not accept Parent Volunteers?

For primary one session, are the P1 children paired with the senior students in school for first few days?

MBS is not a single session school yet. It will happen in 2016. Yes it is true that they do not accept any PV for Phase 2B. As for the buddy system, I am afraid MBS doesn't practise that. There will be PV helping out during the 1st 2 weeks. hth

Thank you, Chowon. Good to know the answers.

For MBS, the P1 have catered food for the 1st 3 days of school. On the 4th day, my understanding is that they will be allocated a P2 buddy. Besides buddy, parent volunteer also play an important role.

MBS don't accept PV. The rationale is that their demand is already more than supply so they don't want to create unnecessary demand thereby disappointing parents.

And I have another question may I know what is the difference between the wushu CCA and the wufang wushu enrichment. Any feedback

wushu cca means you are in the school team and can represent the school for competition. wushu enrichment is the same as enrichment classes whereby a child can pay some fee and join as an interest class. hth

Just to clarify, the Wushu CCA comprises two teams - the school team and the non-school team. Members of the former only meet once a week (Wed) for practice whereas the latter will meet twice a week (Wed & Fri). As chowon has pointed out, the school team members may be selected to represent the school to take part in inter-sch competitions.

Last understood is that wushu CCA is no longer offered to the lower primary, only the enrichment programme. not sure what is the case now.

The Wufang wushu enrichment programme is a paid programme and if I am not wrong is conducted in the evening after school (previously was Monday not sure about now). Coaches for the CCA are also from Wufang which is set up by Vincent Ng 翁清海. For the paid enrichment programme, guess they will impart more to a smaller group.

My P1 came back with a CCA form for Wushu. I didn't pay much attention to it but my impression is that it is not paid type.

MMM, my gal got that form too. It’s P1 & P2 Wushu Enrichment Programme. It is $148 for 10 lessons conducted every Wed 9am to 11am.

Thanks Admummy. Do you know about chinese orchestra? I heard it's also paid and on saturday?

We are thinking of exposing P1 to band and orchestra after which ask her to choose 1.

Hi MMM, ds is in Chinese Orchestra. The hours are 9am-1pm on Sat. No fees collected. Perhaps it’s guzheng that is payable?

                    csb,

Thanks for info. Think chinese orchestra is out for her then. She has enrichment classes on sat and not possible to reschedule.

hey dun mention it! no idea abt chinese orchestra, but can check with the form teacher on 14 Jan during the meeting session...my gal also interested in the school band, she saw them rehersing at the open area during the orientation and was so totally impressed...but i am a bit hesitant, scared over stretched her...she's currently having Berries, ICR and piano lesson during weekends...during weekday, mad rush during morning and only little time left at night...she wake up 8.30, take breakfast, bathe by 9.30 from 9.30 to 10.45 study time (now no homework from school so usually do assessment books or enrichment classes homework) then 10.45 to 11.20 lunch and dress up for school...school bus arrive at 11.45...there goes my gal...then she reach home abt 7.05, eat dinner watch some tv programme until 8. then study again...until abt 9 where i ask her to read some story book or play ipad ...10 oclock sleep...she ask me mummy why i so busy now...poor gal...how's your pri 1 day like?

My P1 has a fairly busy life as well 😉 She used to have ballet, etc... but this year I cut down on some of those classes.

I let her sleep till 9am (as I am worried about her afternoon naps) but on wednesday she has piano lesson in the am. She has to start to get ready for school by 10odd as bus is here at 11am. Currently, I let her enjoy her morning but she has to sit down together with her siblings to to revise/ do work at night. We usually start from 7.30pm and end around 10pm.

On saturday, she has Lcentral 9-10.30 followed by molin 11.15 - 1.15. Her afternoon is free after that. But that also means she cannot do chinese orchestra.

For sunday, she has CL S&D (same as what they offer to P2 next year). But as all my kids attend the same program but back to back schedule. we are there from 9.15 - 1.15pm. Followed by maths for 3 of them. So we are only free after 3.30pm.

I wanted to let her choose between orchestra/ band. But now the choice is clear. She will take up band. She has been \"brain washed\" by us on band as the siblings are in band. The commitment for band will only increase when they go to P3 term 3, when they have to go back on saturdays as well. eg. 2 practise each week. Nearer to music exchange/ SYF, they would also have to go back during school hols, etc... Eg. my kids were telling me that during this year's March hols, they cannot go anywhere as they have music exchange. My P5 was like.... they still must go for band the week before CA due to SYF. I told her that so long as she manage her revision time well, I think it's fine.

I heard that band is looking for P1 with music background. MBS school band has been havng gold with honours and it is a very reputable band and many years of good reputation. One which my kids are proud to be in. The band instructor is great. Imagine my pride when my hairdresser told me that wow... you must listen to MBS band, it really made him sit up. His son was from CH band and he heard MBS band played during SYF performance. My niece who is active in a sec school band told me alot of great stuff about MBS band too. So if your child is really keen, let her pursue and make sure she continues throughout. You never know if it brings about DSA value.

Actually I heard alot of comments about band taking up alot of time,etc.... However I see how band works positively for my niece who just collected her \"O\" levels results today. I thought it's good for the kids to have passion for something they enjoy eg. if they enjoy band, let them be. Their teenage years are probably spend on band activities and studies. Rather than idling in some shopping malls?????
