Phonetic script isn't only available for longman dictionaries. The oxford advanced dictionary has it too. I had purchased that specifically when I did a module in phonetics 2 years ago. My DS brought it along to show his teacher but was told it wasn't acceptable. I intend to email his teacher to enquire the reason for the insistence for longman.
I will check with dd when she is back tonight on her showing of our BIG dictionary to her teacher.
Dictionaries are reference materials and teachers should not insist on a particular kind/type.
If RV is to follow the University's style, then the books listed in the book list should be called as reference books/materials.
Math notes are given which means the math textbook is optional? -
My math teacher requires the textbook.

If I remember correctly, last year the teacher said the phonetic transcription is slightly different in some dic, that's why they want all to use longman.

I am sure we have to pay for the notes.
Are technical and home econs examinable? -
Belle2011:
Got to pay a small amount. Can't remember how much. Tech and home econs are not examinable.
