Same here. Homemade food. Canteen food doesn't look very nice. I gave DD 50 cents every week. At first I also see there is no need giving her pocket money... But I was too curious to find out how she will \"fiddle\" with real money .... a saver or a spender?...to test her of a kind lah... haha

By the way, any one knows about school policy regarding hand phones? I am asking this because my girl recently requesting a handphone. :lightrod: I said NO and she asked \"why P3 jie jie can have one but I can't.....\"..... :skeptical:

My girl is also in P1. I packed food for her only on the Monday after the orientation week. Tuesday, she requested to buy her own food, telling me her friends were all buying food from canteen....I gave her $1.50 but told her for food only, no soft drinks (give her a packet of milk everyday)...

So far Tuesday & Wednesday, she bought porridge, yesterday she said she had \"maggie mee\", all from a stall called \"Tim Sum Surprise\". Spent 60cts everyday...remainder she brought home and kept in her coin box...
She said the stall sells \"Char Kway Teow\" also and she wants to try soon.... :yikes: :yikes:

Regarding handphone, on the 1st day of school, I remember the principal did mention that he discourages.... don't think there is a rule that bans the phone because when I was doing parent volunteering works, many of the students from P3 to P6 all owns one....

                  drwho:

                  dear parents, kindly advise,

                  1) is it normal not to have time table in the 1st week?
                  2) is your P1 child assign a P2 'buddy' to familiarize the school/bring him/her to canteen during recess?
                  3) how much is your child given for recess snack/lunch?

                  thanks.

hi, drwho. Mine in P2 now.
                  1) Till now, P2 also don't have timetable. If I remember correctly, we had p1 timetable at the end of 1st week? Anyway, in Feb, the timetable is likely to change bec of LSM/LSE. So look out for changes later.
                  2) I don't think there is any buddy system. There are parent volunteers around to help during recess.
                  3) I let my DSs bring milk and snack to sch so that I know what they eat everyday. So, didn't give pocket money 🙂
                  Hope this helps.

Agreed with you, im pissed and drop his formeer teacher a email and ask for timetable for P2.
She replied so nicely to brushed me off.....

It is new found freedom for her to be able buy any food of her choice and she is sooooo enjoying it! 😄

No no no, 50cents every week not every day. I packed lunch box every day for DD so no need to buy food from canteen. The pocket money is just to \"test water\" and for fun only. hehe

I also brushed DD off very nicely on her request for handphone:\"Save your pocket money dear, till one day you can have enough $ to buy yourself a hand phone.\" She happily agreed .... for now. 😆 I think I am pretty \"wicked\". 😓

I am quite  last week abt the holistic files. The school insisted that P2 buys the holistic file again! Saying P1 one cannot reuse! The new one cost $13.50 and the old one $5 is wasted!

A quick survey for P2 parents:
                        1) Did u buy the holistic file again? (yes/no)
                        2) In P1, did the sch/teacher uses the holistic file? (yes/no) If yes, how did they use it?

I asked qn2 bec my 3 files have been lying in my bookshelf for one whole year. My DDs bring the papers back with instruction on how to file. I did it diligently for them. No one sees the file except me. So my question is why should I spent another $40.50 (3x13.50) and wasted my old files ($15). After all, I am the end user. I am the only one uses the files.

I understand all their explanation that the new file has flexibilty to add new pockets and while the old one cannot. The new one also can reuse for P3. But when I file one subject per team in 1 pocket, I used only 1/4 of P1 file last yr. Stupid to me that they must insist to file 1 paper 1 pocket. They should not file like cert bec test papers ususally have many pages and one need to take out to read page 2 onwards. So, being the end user, I feel it is easier that I can bring the whole stack of same subject per team out of 1 pocket. The final joke is that I am likely to throw away the P1 test papers soon. I have already thrown away the content inside K1/K2 holistic files last year!

                        Really full of frust
