Morning folks
Anyone can share more about the Library CCA ? It seems less ‘xiong’ as compared to other CCAs in terms of schedule. Any long term ‘effect’ for choosing a less demanding CCA in term of LEAP, bonus points etc? -
Ortus Sec 1 parents,

Understand Pro-Ed already had theirs last night, and friend said very good wor.
How about Ortus lei ?
BTW…where is MFQuek ?? So quiet… -

Pinky88 thank you for the info on calc of MSG.
Is it true that only a small proportion of the students will get admitted into the clubs/society/sports CCAs ? What is the success rate of appeals? DS is not keen in U/G but heard from seniors that most students usually end up being assigned to one in that group. -

They have been selling a lot of Koyok for UG and has made it a compulsory selection....so what do you think? -

I find the CCA options a \"Wayang\" process -- for show only. Many CCAs require prior experience. What if there are no such CCAs offered in the primary school, where to get prior experience even if the student is very interested in it ? The CCA leaders conducted the trial interviews and did the selection. I heard in one sport even without the coach's presence. Can they truly identify talents/potentials in less than 5 mins at their age ? I simply cannot understand how the school can use this system to commit one to a CCA for four years on this basis....sigh. What's the point of putting in option when all has been set and sealed ?Jeannie12:

Hi Pinky88
1) Oral participation is based on the boys daily classroom participation. At e end if each term, e OP mks for individual subjects will b reflected on e progress report. Ttl 40% comes fm HC + best 3 subjects.yamatomato:
Have some questions on oral communication (OC) and indep studies (IS)
1) How is OC to be tested. It comprises 40% oral participation (10% HC and 30% from any best 3 subjects) with remaining 60% from current affairs (30% each fm EL and CL). How are the 40% and 60% to be tested? Based on daily classroom participation or a formal oral test?
2) For Ace under IS, so far there seems to be only something given out to the pupils for HCI. Anybody's ds has done something for ELL?
3) for computation of msg, there is total of 6 subjects of which at least 5 must come from exam subjects and the last can come fm non exam subjects?
Hope someone can enlighten me. thanks and good nite
For e current affairs, i'm not sure if there r any changes for e sec 1s. 2 yrs ago, HC is split into oral interview on current issues (10%) & debates (20%). EL- oral interview on current issues(10%) & role playing panel discussion(20%).
2) Dun worry abt ace, e teachers will tell e boys what to do & getting full mks for ace is not difficult if e boys put in effort.
3) MSG academic cal is based on ELL, HC, Maths, IH, LSS + Infocomm studies. If ur boy takes 3rd lang & achieve A1, it will also b included in e computation but for EOY exams, e boys hv to opt if they want to include e 3rd lang exam mks into e MSG computation b4 e exams.
MSG scholastic is MSG academic + OC + IS
Hope e above helps:)
Thanks for the clarifications.
Just a quick check. You mentioned that 3rd lang can be included but on condition that it is A1? If 3rd lang is to be included in the compuatation, does that mean that the MSG will then be divided by 7 subjects instead of 6?
Understand that for some schools, 3rd lang can be used to replace certain subjects for instance if your 3rd lang is A2 and history is B4, you can then use 3rd lang instead of history in the MSG computation. Is this not the case in HCI?
Many thanks -

Just wonder why they could not let the kids have a sports CCA that is purely recreational. While it is mentioned that for those who could not get into the sports that they want, there are many avenues/opportunities that they can still enjoy and play their sports/games like during recess time etc, I still think that the whole system is 'not' right. Children at their age should be given the opportunity to join a sport they are keen and from there they may be able to grow and develop with the help of a coach.ER:

Anyway, can someone tell me more about the UGs. Would like to know major diff among scouts, NPCC and ST John ambulance. We were thinking of putting scouts as 1st choice but just realize that other than Fri, they need to go back for training on Sat morning as well. Is that true? For the rest of the UGs, understand the 2 trainings (min) are all on weekdays.
Thanks -

Many thanks[/quote]Hi yamatomato, yes, ur r right, if 3rd lang is included in the MSG computation, then it's divided by 7 instead of 6. As for the replacement of subject aggregate with 3rd lang aggregate, I dun tink HCI practise that.
