Hi. my boy will be going to P1 next year. can anyone please comment on their experience with the school/teachers? iโ€™ve been advised against to sending my boy to St Gabriel as the teachers are unable to manage and control the boys, hence they are very badly behaved. However, i somehow think is a pretty good sch. Any strengths of the sch? thanks

I have no idea if SGPS is a good idea or not.. It depends on individual.. So far so good.. My boy has a behavioural issue and they refer him to a councellor. So i guess at least they have backup in case the teacher cannot handle or no time to handle. But I guess the older they become, the more exposed to more adult language and expressions. And I guess it's normal.

Like my boy has recently picked up vocab like \"Shit!\" when he makes a boo-boo.. Then when he sees something funny he'll say \"What the...\" and the funny thing is, he'll just stop at \"the\"

But I did hear that SGPS is NOT the school you would choose if you want a TOP 10 school. (How true it is, I dunno) Cos it is not famous for its academic results. But I guess stuff like soccer CCA is good, etc. another thing to consider which I didn't, is the distance to your place. While some poeple don;t mind the morning commute, believe me, it does wear you down. And also the kid will be tired to have to wake up say 1 hr earlier than his peers right?

Don't flame me ah.. Just my thoughts.... :imsorry:
Hi Wenthea,

Sorry saw your msg late - think your son should be in Morning Star by now.

For school holidays, just let him dress in home clothes, but put on shoes with socks - normal outing or school shoes will do. So that he can play outdoors.
No need to pack extra food as everything will be under Morning Star - that's why we pay extra $25 a week for holidays to cover the extra meals etc.

For school holidays, in Morning Star, they do arts and craft or other research work assigned by the centre. Like last year, March holiday, they did Charlotte's Web (did the play, craft on the play as well as read the story and watched the movie). June, they did Japan - so they learnt something about Japan everyday like food, clothes, a few new words, musical instruments, weather etc etc. Sept, they did the book Wizard of Oz. Dec, they did Egypt. This holiday - I remember reading the leaflet on the topic too, but I seriously can't remember now.

For holidays, mornings, they do the special project - depending on what the topic is given by Morning Star. Afternoon, they will concentrate on usual activities like completing their homework etc. So, if your son finishes his holiday homework set by his P1 teacher, then better to let him bring some assessments to do in his free time there.

          Hope this helps.

          Hi eetsc,

Wow! This is VERY helpful! :goodpost:

Yea my son in morning star already.. And I guess the only toot one in full school uniform! Hopefully no one will ๐Ÿ˜† at him. :rotflmao:

He finished ALL his homework last friday before coming home.. So I guess i need to prepare assignments for him.

But based on what you say, it sounds really fun! At least they use their time constructively. I feel so guilty that all other kids are going on holidays, going theme park, and other activities but then i stuck at work, my boy in morning star... ๐Ÿ˜ข

Sigh... I feel extremely guilty too. Just a week or two ago, my son brought home journal homework. He had already completed. Title: What I do during the holidays. And he wrote, \"During the school holidays, I go Morning Star. etc etc...\" ai yoh, I feel so sad for him. Poor boy!
Ah well... Same on my side... Somemore packing assessments for him to do.. I'm so horrible..

I will try getting him to do as test also.

Dun feel so bad about putting him in morning star during the hols. At least he has company and get to learn interesting stuff.
Better than do nothing at home. Think of it as extra enrichment.

Btw, do u all give your son extra enrichment?

Yours don't go morning star right?

Mine attends Chinese tuition cos we are from a non Chinese speaking family. My hubby doesn't even understands Chinese ๐Ÿ˜ž
So you can say he's struggling with Chinese since range of vocab is limited.

Itโ€™s good to start him from young. Mine is struggling for most subject cause he takes it all very lightly and he doesnโ€™t read well.

Hesitating between sending him for enrichments or just helping him as and when he has work.

The teacher gave like a A4 cover page. Supposed to take a pic of your son and stick at the blank space and stick it to the front of the file. That's it i think.

The maths work sheets.. I made my son erase it all... he didn't read and just do... hiaz.. same story. then when he redo, he claim he dunno how to read.. I got to threaten him then suddenly he can read... every single word.. What should i do?? :slapshead: I at such a loss... I'm still sitting on the fence on buying him test papers.. I saw at toa payoh selling $35 for 3 subjects from top schools.. But I'm sure that that is gonna make him hate studies even more.. not something i want.. hiaz.. why is it so hard to just be average.. I'm not even asking him to be top student... :stupid:
