Does anyone know if the single session will operate after June 2013 or only in 2014?

Apologies. The info was given by my dd#1's teacher. No letter was given. However, she did mention that an official letter will be given to us.

                  Hi Parents,

I am an old boy of HPPS and I have the intention of sending by son there in 4 years time. However, it is now branded as a ‘good school’ and I have some reservations.

I take a holistic approach in his education and don’t favour exams, homework and academic success. I value creativity, character and EQ.

I like to find out from parents how’s the ‘stress level’ at HPPS.

I have made a promise to give my son a happy childhood without paper chase, enrichment classes and tuition.

I also apologise if my values may differ from yours. I take an alternative stance in education, and personally I find that the exams oriented, and structured academic system in Singapore very back-dated, and doesn’t add value to the child for the future. To add, I am also an educator.

                  Thank you for your inputs.

we need more parents like you :rahrah:

On a comparitive scale - the stress levels are lesser in HPPS. ( DD just went thru Psle in 2010, and I have a a Ds there now).

I personally felt even in the upper primary years the homework levels were manageable. My DD never worked beyond 10:00 pm even though she is very meiculous (except when there was Art home work). One key reason was she did not have any tution/enrichment except mother tongue. And that meant no additinal work to do besides school work , no time lost for travel to enrichment classes . But P6 was tough year - more and more extra classes/exam papers whoa!

Most teachers seemed reasonable, and are committed. And not pushy. I know schools that had extra classes on the eve of the science exam. At HPPs , they went into a quiet mode 2 weeks b4 PSLE. Teachers even advised parents not to let the child to any more papers instead to do light revision.

The school takes pride in the good results of the O level students too ( of ex-students) showing that its not only the top ones that can shine later in life.

A lot i think depends on our expectations ...
The competition will be there. Hordes of kids from the top classes going to Learning Lab, Mind stretcher... The point is do you want to let it affect you or your child ?

That is a tough one. In Singapore education system - Even if your child has time which other child has time to play with him ?

forget academics - neither is sports is not played for the joy of it nor is music. Its all a ticket to DSA. Often I am wondering , And the point of education is...

i too worry whether the kids will lose the love of learning in such pressured system. Being an educator you probably see that the ones who score the most are not necessarily the ones who have the best potential.

Yes so its wonderful that people like you are able pause and tell that the emperor is without clothes. I just want you to remember its not an easy path.

                      Dear Parents,

Undst HPPS is not affliated to the secondary school. do you parents feel \"stressed\" up bcos of this? usually what is the percentage difference for affliated schools with minimum cutoff points. i have heard stories of some children who didnt do as well in HPPS PSLE & was posted to a lousy neighbourhood school instead.

i also heard that they are cutting down 1 class (30 seats) by next year due to single session? is it true? then getting a place for my child in will be even more difficult 😞

                        Hi all,

I received a Chinese enrichment course sign up for P1 level. Any feedback if it’s good & wonder anyone knows how many students in a class & if it’s effective?

It’s by Yi Chen Culture Service Centre.
