All About Competitive Swimming

Hi smurf, this is a bit OT:
can I know at what standard can a kid go for competitive? must he/she finishes stage 6 of swimsafer? and what is the different stages means? stage 4 is bronze, 5 is silver and 6 is gold?
As I do not know all the Swim club requirement so what I know from my experience with a few clubs I have taught with is that one must know how to swim all the 4 strokes which is front crawl, breast, back & fly.
Our swimsafer which has 6stages..yes bronze is 4, Silver is 5 & gold is 6 but butterfly is not taught as it is not in the program.
So depends on the kids interest but I wld suggest they continue to stay with their coach after completing their gold to learn the fly!
So far if Im not wrong only clubs provide competitive swim due to many factors why we dont....if anyone bother to know why can pm me
Competitive swim is no joke ya esp for parent having to bring their kids at least 3 times a week of 1-2hrs of training + kids having to juggle with home work so one must be prepare what they are in for!
But end of the day the benefits out way the sacrifice in my opinion

Thanks swimironkids!

Any P1/P2 kids are into competitive training? Can parents give advice on balancing of swimming and schoolwork especially they are quite young and just started formal schooling?
What are the type of meets or competitions they can sign up for? -
Tonight watch First 11 at channel 5, 7pm
See each contestant beside their football skill, taken to task in their swimming skills by our National Coach David Lim in action.
Enjoy, Only the best survive!! -
How do I get my daughter started with Competitive Swimming?
Must I join a club to do so? Any other options?
I live in the East. If joining a club is necessary, which one would you recommend?
How do I go about choosing a coach?
:thankyou: -

Join a club if you can and can move on from there as they have competitive classes. How do I get my daughter started with Competitive Swimming?

She must be able to swim all the 4 strokes and if cnt no worries as these clubs shld have classes for her to learn.
These clubs already have a coach to each group so you cnt really choose unless they have a big group with different coaches then you can choose the one you like la..hehe.
I dont suggest that you get a pte coach to teach in your condo or public pool becos condo pool is small & public pool you cnt use fins & paddle + traffice jam in the pool
There are 2 clubs in the east ie chinese swimming club & singapore swimming club but if you ask me which club to join if can & dunt mind to travel abit go for the top club, 2 words - swimfast at Acs Barker's road founded by David Lim, ex-olympian & National Coach
Well results speaks for itself if you have read the wed, thurs papers under home, swimmer Darren & Zheng Wen broke national records in the inter school meets.....both trained at swimfast, i believe many more to come
If you do not know how he look like or if you miss the show first x1 go to Xin msn and watch it - abt 5-10mins on swimmng
This is my personal opinion only ya cos others may disagree :salute:
If you need more info can pm me or post it here

Swimironkids-
Thanks for all your advice. If I wanted to find a coach to just give me an opinion first before joining a club, is it likely a coach from one of these clubs would entertain my request? Sort of a trial session to see if they think my girl has the talent and potential? Would Swimfast do something like that?
Some online search turned up ACE Swim Club on MacPherson Rd and Atlantis Aquanauts in Aljunied. Hv u heard anything abt them? Still believe joining club is best way to go? If my daughter can do competitive swimming, weโd want to be serious abt it so she could get school to approve her outside sport as her CCA โฆwith hopes this could help with DSA to secondary school.
Thanks for your help and sorry for my late reply. Lately concentrating my attn on my daughterโs study time in preparation for SA1. -

If you r serious about it any club would be glad to assess your daughter & provide their opinion.
Most important is whether your daughter has the interest or not cos its really hard work & sacrifices
No I do not have much info on these 2 clubs you mention so its best not to give my comment
Yes joining a club is the best way to go imo to get serious in to competitive swimming and I know swimfast do provide trial to assess your daughter and Im sure they have the right class for her
ACS are good at swimming so maybe can also get in using swimming + academic if she is good in it :rahrah:
Dun stress your daughter ya.....as parent we redi stress out liao
All the best ya :xedfingers: -
Swimironkids,
Thanks so much for all your advice. Will have a trial at a club and see if there is talent and interest on the part of my daughter.
