[Yishun] Primary Schools

Northland Primary School is good!
I just graduated there. Caring teachers and lots more. It was in the news sometime last year that people wanting to get into NLPS could not because it was jammed full of students.
Highest top scorer for PSLE in history from NLPS was 287 in 1998.
Chongfu is more Chinese-oriented
Northland is more math-oriented. -
Hi,
I need some advice here.I was once a student from ai tong, but due to I had move to yishun, then I was transfer out from ai tong when I was pri 3 by my parents as they prefer I study nearby.Question is , if I gonna to enrol my son next time back to ai tong , will there be any difficulties? But I staying in Yishun that maybe difficult as it is outside 2km already? Another althernative is since I am staying < 1km from Chong Fu, I am considering that option too.
For registration in chong fu,
1) Do I need to take part in PV in order to secure a place since I stay <1km ?
Which phase should I be under ?
2) If I got 2 SHHK memmbers to recommend, do I still require to be a SHHK member ? -
HI, all, just want to know in 2C phase, how many citizens register for primary 1 for chongfu? my address distance is within 1k.
thank you. -
Hi, I was asked to go for CHongfu PV meeting next Wed for my son 2014 Pri enrollment.
Has anyone go for this kind of meeting b4? Going for this meeting does it means that I definitely be chosen for PV?
What kind of questions will they ask or what is this meeting for?
As I m staying more than 2km away fm Chongfu, what is the chances of doing PV?
If I m chosen to do PV, I know that I still hv to go thru balloting, hence what is my chances of getting in?
Can anyone kind mummies pls help out in the queries above? -
Hi, like to check as i m contemplating the schools & cant make up my mind, as my ger will be heading for P1 in 2015.
I am staying within 1 km from both Northland & Peiying and would like to go for Northland (cos NL is still much nearer to me than PY). however, I called up the school and am told that have to do PV and even with PV, still have to ballot, may not necessary have chance to get in...
Alternatively, i could go for Chongfu (which is outside of 2km) as it is my spouse's old sch & no PV is needed in this case. My hesitation with CF is the higher learner of Chinese @ p1 + distance + the cutting short of hair for all gers unless u are into some sort of dance club (my ger likes to keep long hair).
having said tat, the plus point is CF has only morning classe whereas NL has P1 in afternoon which I am not keen on. On the other side of the coin, i am told CF has a highly stressed envt which if I would rather my kid dun get all rolled into.
i m kinda of contradictority on myself, i know....which is why i would like to hear from all u mummies / daddies here, what would u do if u were me... Thanks lots! -
Hi all,
my child is due for pri 1 registration this year.
Im awaiting for recommendation from shhk somewhere by 15 july 2012.
In e event, not recommendated, im considering Jiemin pri (< 1km fr my home).
As i guess Northland(b/t 1-2km) – slim chance…
After looking around, (if im not wrong), Jiemin is not ranked high in terms of academic excellence… pls correct me if im wrong…
And if so, why is jiemin so popular (in yishun), ranking no. 3 , below Chongfu and Northland??
I look forward to anyone’s advice… thank you. -

Hi (stressful) mummies,
I am like many mummies here trying to find out more information about the schools in Yishun. Initially i planned to send my girl to Anderson Pri since we will be under 2A2 but we have not been able to find a suitable resale unit near that area. On top of that, I only found out few days ago that APS will undergo 2 yrs of reno between 2014 - 2015 when they will shift elsewhere during this period. For this reason, i am holding back my plan.
Now, I decide shift our focus to Yishun partly bcos my parents and other family members r staying ard the area, we are also in the midst of getting a unit near Yishun central.
Like many mummies, the first thing in mind is checking out for the top/ popular schools - Chongfu/ Northland/ Jiemin - from the statstics I can find here is there the chances are very slim for P2C (1-2km range)
Yishun Pri seem to be the next after the 3 mentioned above but it could be a little distant away for me.
The nearest school to my (potentially) future address will be Huamin but I have not heard about this school at all. Although i must say their website does look interesting to me.
While it is almost natural for us as parents to dive our focus into the top schools, on the other hand, i doubt there’s any bad school too. From many articles and real life examples, if our child ever goes to top school, the parents must also ensure that they can catch up with the pace and tons of requirement/ expectation…otherwise it is really cruel to see young children trying to keep afloat by themselves (presuming both parents r working), spending time in student care and following by tuition/ enrichment classes over the weekday evening or weekends. Gosh, this already sound so busy! let alone the real stuffs. I seen my nieces and nephew from Aitong and Chongfu…it’s not easy for everyone when both parents r working.
Many thoughts ran thru my mind…perhaps i should just go for the nearest, cos that already save our energy and trouble and time getting to/fro school. My child may also walk back by herself when she’s a little older (lesser risk on road traffics due to distant). Use the time we have saved for quality activities as well as family bonding. Less stress less trouble but more happiness. Maybe I sound like I am trying to comfort myself, but perhaps this is the best decision! It’s not the end of the world!
Good luck everyone!
Cheers! -
