The amusing thing is that the car decal has to be paid every year!!!

I thought it's the same for all schools, isn't it?

Nope, it's FREE for quite a number of schools. It's usually used as an indication that you are a parent of a student in their school, so they'll let you drive into the school compound to pick your kids up.

This is the first time I'm hearing that you need to pay for the car decal, unless they are doing it to cover cost or part of a fund raising project?

Yes I pay for them. My kids are in different schools and all the schools require yearly payment for decal. So I actually thought that's the norm. 😢

if u go to the school occasionally or only dropping off the kids in the morning, there's really no need to change the decal every yr.

I drop off my kids in school everyday and occasionally pick them up from school. I remember once I was stopped by security at the gate at the beginning of the year coz my decal was still the previous year's. The schools are quite strict on this.

I confirmed with my friend that we do not need to open a separate Edusave acct with any bank - MOE takes care of that.

As for CCAs, better to access what your daughter's interests are and if she has the time to spare and commit to the CCA. Mine is interested in dancing and we may choose Modern Tap Dance.

My main concern is that the expenses at the school are high - school uniforms, books, misc stuff already amounted to >$500! The amusing thing is that the car decal has to be paid every year!!!
Yes I was shocked at the amount that we spent too! I have checked with my other friends who have kids going to p1. Most ppl spend about only $400! And yet amazingly, everyone still tries to get their gals into MGS!

This is not uncommon though not every school require you to have car decal cos some schools do not encourage drive in as they can drop kids off outside the school.

Yes it may be a bit more but you are paying for the built-in English S&D, Chinese S&D, gym lessons (taught by external instructors) and so on. Those were good experiences for my daughter and I'll end up paying a lot more if I were to enrol her outside of school.

But that's only for P1/P2. From P3 onwards, you will pay significantly less coz these lessons will make way for Science.

Does anyone know how the CCAs Modern Tap Dance or Modern Jazz are at MGS?

My daughter wants to learn dancing and the choice is either of the two as we are not keen on RAD Ballet. Based on the information on the school website, it appears that neither have garnered any SYF awards. I’d rather she choose a CCA which would be a niche area of the school for future admission to MGS Sec. I know MGS is strong in netball, swimming, gym and choir, but she is not keen on any!

Just curious, why are you not interested in RAD Ballet?

If you are intending to use DSA into schools with niche area in dance, RAD Ballet is highly recognised, especially if your girl has grade 5 and above by P6.

MGS does admit students via Dance for DSA.
