In primary one, he was reading books like Harry Potter etc but his spelling was quite bad. So that's how I knew. Dyslexia has nothing to do with intelligence, just need to be taught.

I suspected my daughter to be dyslexic when she was 5yrs old (K1) coz she kept mixing up the ‘b’ and ‘d’. Sent her to I Can Read and now she seems much improved. Not sure whether is she really dyslexic or not in the first place or am I too kiasu…

Dyslexic can be a genius. It is best to get professional evaluation to determine the degree. Can try KKH; and ask the doctor to write you a eval report which you can share with the school teachers.

my form teacher in canberra pri supects him my son to be and so sent a letter for me to cgeck up in kkh but it took a while n i went to DAS for help with the sch letter n kkh n CDC to get him into the DAS, took abt alomst a yr to get in, long q…

for my nephew case - from suspected to confirm by DAS take abt 3 mths, thanks to the help from the sch teacher. They help get the letter fast and oso call the DAS abt my nephew case. He will start the DAS lesson next yr.


We went to few workshops organize by DAS to know, understand more. We use some of the methods to teach him now he is improving. He used to get 0 for his spelling but now he can get 3 or 4/10. He can remember things better. The only problem now is his attitude… he is getting more n more aggressive and get irritated very easily.

i am starting to panic, i know my son has this "language disorder" since young. He’s really bad when trying to conveying his thoughts effectively. hence i think he could be ridiculed at in school in all languages (eng/mand/dialect). He is doesnt look at all stupid.

Infact, he is rather academically inclined, esp maths. He is also very good with fixing things (Legos, puzzles, drawing - hates coloring) But when it comes to written assisgnments for Eng/Chin (eg. journals, compositions, comprehensions, he will crack up and take hours to complete them.

The problems kind of escalated alittle now that he is in a new school (chongfu), with higher standards, and he stammers more. he gets so frustrated and angry when we cant understand him and he suddenly realises he is at the bottom of the class. its something he cant grab now and is losing his confidence. to make matters worse, no peers to cheer him up.

DAS’s charges are rather expensive, and i am not financially fit enuf to send him thru all these courses, do any of you mums / dads have good solutions?

hi, i am fully aware that my son too had that problem, i find das charges not too bad, for the last time i check with a few places, the charges r too xxx for me.

I think the DAS charges are still cheaper than other private centre. Only prob is the waiting time for the assessment.


My nephew is currently attending the DAS course twice a wk. Per session (1hr) is abt 4 students. The teachers are all very attentive and good. We also attended some courses to learn more. From there we understand their prob, how they read a question (they jumble words when reading) … we tell him it is not that he is stupid, only that he hv to learn thru diff way…… They learn spelling, phonics, comprehension, math in another way. DAS conducting workshop for parents, caregiver can get $200 grant per year. Please checks the website for the details, the courses is very popular, some even need to book 3 mths advance.
