Red Swastika

what I can say is I am happy with Red, very touch to see my son singing the school song I used to sing and taught by teacher used to teach me… I can’t deny that distance is a problem, I wanted to tried Meetoh or Edge Field which within 1km of me, but I need to risk that he might not be able to get in since both school need balloting within 1km…

Hi,
My son will be registering this year for Primary school and because my alma mater is Red Swastika, and my husband's is Tao Nan School, we can choose to send my boy to either school through phase 2A1... and we are faced with a dilemma of which school to send my son to.
For those of you parents who already have children in Red Swastika school, can you share with me on how you find the school, and if given a choice, which of the 2 schools will you choose (honestly), what are the things you like and dislike about RSS?
I really want a school where there is a balanced focus on developing the whole child, not a skewed overtly focus on academics, though of course academics should still be good. Does the school expects all the children to already know their stuff (like what I have heard alot about on the schools these days, and how they expect parents to have already send the children for enrichment classes).
Thank you, and all sharing are greatly appreciated! Registration is next Friday!

Hi, my kid has been transferred to RSS last year and by putting up in Marine Parade, I do have some frenz whose kids are in TN. Your observation about TN seem correct as that's what I am hearing from their parents too. This is further substantiated by the fact that at least 50per cent of my kid frenz are in TLL for tuition. TN is stressful in terms of academic and was told that school has often advised parents to seek external tuition for the low performing kids.
For RSS, pace is no so stressful hence that could be also explained why the PSLE result is less shining than TN.
This is my kid 3rd school and if you asked for my humble opinion which school to choose, I would advise you sincerely to ask yourself what you as a parent want. I do like you, asked for a well balance approach when my kid was going P1. She was doing very well and for a moment I was over moon. However, I have a wake-up call when I realized what my other frenz kids schools are exposing the student to and not her own school. Additionally, the tuition centrex that I sent her to is exposing her to much high order questions. She was initially discouraged and start to have the mindset that such q would not appear in her school papers. Hence, we see a disconnect here.
So, here what I am trying to tell you is you must stand firm to what you want. TN academic performance are really impressive. However, since this is a gifted school, you need to find out the overall performance of the mainstream students too to made a comparison. RSS is not faring too bad and the beauty is the teachers do not stress the parent to seek external help. However, do bear in mind that there is still a gap in PSLE achievements.
Hope the above can help you... :xedfingers:
