        Hi hi everybody,

I am new to this. Can I ask if any 1 has done any comparison bet GESPS and RMPS? Which school is better overall in terms of teachers, results, environment and so on?

After reading the posts, my thoughts are that GESPS seems to have done well despite being quite a young school (I know 4 schools merged into GESPS and my former pri school happened to be one of them). I have heard pple ard me saying the RMPS is one of the more established and better 1s in bukit merah area.

        tks

          hi dino,
I have not done any comparison between the 2 schools, but from the trend, no doubt RMPS is a more popular choice. U can probably find out the reasons and its strengths in the RMPS thread. πŸ˜„ Interesting to note is a friend, whose husband was an old boy in RMPS, was actually evaluating GESPS for her son as she had the feeling that RMPS was too academically driven and may be too stressful for her son.

I tend to feel that in terms of teacher mix, both schools should be comparable. As in any other govt schools, the teachers are allocated by MOE. So u can see a gd mix of old-school, new-school, conservative (the type who makes the kids \"put the finger on the lips\") and the open type who encourages kids to voice their opinions. A plus point i can see in GESPS is that the Principal embraces creative teaching methods (eg. mocking a crime scene in the school to teach the students DNA profiling, students participating in buddy tutor scheme to teach the weaker ones...etc.)

Results is a tricky thing in GESPS, i feel. A lot has to do with the background of the students. A large % of students come from middle/lower income group, without the luxury of getting \"tuition\". Its student ranges from those eligible for Gifted programme to the U-graders. Because of this, I have seen teachers creatively used \"differentiated learning\" to teach kids of varying ability within a class.

Being mindful of the background of the student mix, the school tries not to \"tax\" on the parents too often for $ for enrichment programmes. In order not to shortchange the students, the teachers have to come up with creative ideas to enrich students' learning experiences (eg, Going for a $0 learning journey at the Alexandra Park Connector to learn about water purification and nature) To teach students on cross boundary culture/education systems, GESPS often plans exchange programmes with schools from China, New Zealand, Taiwan and various international schools.

The school also puts emphasis on teacher-student communication and each student is scheduled to have breakfast with the teacher for a 1-to-1 session (with drink and bun on the house) at least twice a year.

The students in GESPS are also encouraged to participate actively beyond classroom environment. Apart from CCAs, students can perform at the \"Arts Jam\" corner during recess. I've seen Shuffling, Rapping, playing music pcs on keyboard or even pen spinning, etc. They can also learn about entrepreneurship by setting up a store at the \"selling-point\".

I feel that the school has put in substantial effort to create a holistic learning environment and my son has been kept really busy over the last 5+ yrs in GESPS. I am happy to see him get along with kids of different background and most of all, learn the important word \"humility\" in GESPS.

He is in P6 now and I am comforted and confident that he is equipped with what is needed when he steps in a secondary school next yr. :rahrah:

          Cheers.

            Hi Breezy,

            This is very helpful indeed.

It seems like the school really do care and want the students to do well. Btw any idea of student mix from different races??? :grphug:

I do not have figures on students of different races but thru eyeballing, majority are Chinese. Besides 1 malay, 1 indian, 1 Dutch, 1 Korean, the rest are Chinese in my son's class. πŸ˜„
