Bukit Timah Primary

Hi Huaywen,
there’s nothing the school could do to keep their talents? If so how is the school ever going to make progress in standing and popularity? Really a pity and shame. -
I don’t really have an answer to your question. Perhaps if the good kids had stayed on, btps would have produced results like what some of the other neighbourhood schools are doing. I supposed being surrounded by top branded schools does have its disadvantage… If your boy/girl has a chance to get to some of the top schools at p4, would you do it? I think most parents’ answers would be a resounding yes.
I will cross the bridge when it comes for my eldest boy. I would like him to remain in the school so that he can take care of his siblings when they enrol (he will be p5 by the time my #2 is in p1). #2 would never fit into a good school as he may need some learning support which btps is able to provide. But I also do not want to hold my #1 back, so in a dilemma. If he stays on, Maybe in 4 years time he can be one of the top psle students in btps ! haha!

My elder is in Upper primary of this school . I did not reg my younger one under phase 1 this year as I m still considering if to put her in another school. I look at btps last year PSLE result and it doesn’t seem good . Not sure if their academic standard has dropped.

I agree with you. Anyway just checked PHPPS <1km already reached 27 which is their max vacancies left and all are SC. So no luck for me and the rest who are 1-2km. Tmr will be going down to BTPS with my wife and DS and DD to register my DS before going to CC to let them check out the school. My DD will join his brother in 2 yrs time

Every school has it own pros and cons. Whether the school is good enough also boils down to what parents want out of the school for their children. If what you want is a school that is geared towards PSLE results and winning medals, maybe BTPS may not be that good a fit.
BTPS school results may not be among the top but their passing rate is far from the bottom also. It is an average school that does it’s job. I personally feel that they do lose out in terms of economy of scale since their intake is rather small.
To be very honest, BTPS was not my 1st choice. Basically, DS is in BTPS because I have no choice, I guess. I do not have any schools within 1km from where I live. Those that are within 2km are super hot. I was from a girl’s school and DH’s school is too far. So BTPS it is for DS.
DD is in another school. If I want to compare, DD’s school will appear a lot more exciting, more enrichment activities, more CCA choices, etc. But that may not be a fair comparison. Her school definitely has a lot more resources. Culture wise, it is more of a ‘go getting’ school. So with that, it does come with a bit more stress.
From what I can see from DS’s work and his teachers, work wise, BTPS goes down to the basics. Again, good and bad. going down to the basics especially at P1 ensures that few are left behind but children who are more capable may find the work tedious. But that was mainly the first 1/2 year. Things are starting to pick up now. DD’s school kinda assumes that the kids already have certain basics and will move on from there.
Well, after 6mths with BTPS, I find it a decent school. I especially like that they create opportunities for children to showcase their work, like the Science Immersion and Fun Day. All presentations and games are done and manned by the kids themselves. You can see the interest and the level of involvement of the kids from such projects.
So I guess, it all boils down to expectations and availabilty of choices. -
BTPS still got 104 vacancies. Why still so many?
-
Will their 6 classes be filled up before school starts next year?

Yes. Many come in through the last day of 2C, or during 2C supp, when they are balloted out of their choice school or they are not SC/PR I think. Judging from the "hot" nearby battlegrounds, this scenario is likely to repeat itself.
I am also a little worried about the PSLE results last year. Top student’s score was not too impressive to me (26something…) but I think things may change as we move along. What was good a few years ago may not be good now, or may get better; and vice versa. Keeping tab on this year’s PSLE results again…
