Towards end of the slide, it shows 2011 PSLE results. Not too bad for a neighbourhood school that is not really a choice school.

Hi luckymummy77, for this year under phase 2C, all within 1km no need to ballot. Balloting required for 1-2km.

I guess u can call the admin office to check on the PV or maybe KCS website will have some details on this.

My dd just joined Kheng Cheng P1 this year. I am very surprised that the homework she got from the beginning of 2nd week of school is the writing of 2 alphabets (upper and lower caps) each day. I have checked with a few of my friends whose kids are in P1 in other schools, but they didn't have to do this.

my friend's son also started P1 this year (born 2005). She said so far KC doesn't \"push\" kids along.
Her son is the self motivated type - always keen to seek challenge, learn more stuff, his self paced Kumon worksheets daily practice at home had reached \"Fraction\" level. She's getting a bit concerned, with KC.

I did heard good review on KCS (1-2km from home) even though I can choose Kuo Chuan Prebytesrian within a km.

Uplifting children through education

Founded in 1927 in the Moulmein area, Kheng Cheng Primary School started out in an attap hut.

Its first few pupils were the children of poor farmers in the village nearby.

The school has been serving Toa Payoh's residents at its present site since 1974. It was upgraded in 2003 under the Ministry of Education's (MOE) Programme for Rebuilding and Improving Existing Schools.

The school celebrated its 85th anniversary in March and has 1,407 pupils, 80 per cent of whom live in the school's postal district.

Kheng Cheng, which started as a Chinese school, started to offer Malay language as a Mother Tongue in 2004.

The school continues to uphold the vision of its founder, Madam Lim Peng Tuan, which is \"to uplift the children through education\".

Its principal, Mrs Lay See Neufeld, said its pupils have consistently done well at the Primary School Leaving Examinations, achieving better results than comparable schools.

Last year, Kheng Cheng was identified by MOE as one of the schools that has achieved good progress. The following are some highlights of the school:

For students needing academic support:

Kheng Cheng runs the Learning Support Programmes for Primary 1 and 2 students who are weak in their literacy and numeracy. Classes are small, with class sizes of below 16.
Learning Support Coordinators work closely with form teachers and allied educators to support those who need extra help through Primary 3 and 4.
At the Primary 5 and 6 levels, the school arranges for weaker students to be in smaller classes.
Co-curricular activities (CCAs)

Primary 1 and 2 pupils learn art, dance, outdoor education and sports through the Programme for Active Learning.
Primary 3 to 6 pupils have CCAs before recess every Thursday.
Nationally, the school has done well in basketball and chess and its performing arts are particularly strong.
Learning journeys

Kheng Cheng has organised overseas trips to China and Malaysia.

By tapping on MOE's Trips for International Experience and Opportunity Funds, it can provide higher subsidies to needy students to ensure they are not denied opportunities to travel overseas.
