My DH was asking me to consider Expedite shelving unit http://www.ikea.com/sg/en/catalog/categories/departments/youth_room/10382/ as he finds them more stable. What do you guys/ladies think? Honestly, for me I scared that it'll get messy. I'm trying to keep the room neat. :xedfingers:
Expedite looks hardy but I thought it was more like 'cubby holes' for kids.

It's a little too wide for little books...

That's my impression too. I don't quite like as it is too thick and now that you mentioned 'cubby holes', ..... I totally agreed.

I just bought a whole lot of single compartment cabinets that you can join (with wooden joints provided) and stack up any height you want. They are quite heavy, looks pretty sturdy and easy to assemble from Japan Home when they were on sale last month at $9.90 each.

I had bought one home to self assemble and is very pleased with it before I bought the rest. What I like best is the height is right for A4 size ring files and it comes in 4 colours.

Yet to collect the rest and got lots of assembling work ahead........

may i know which branch of \"Japan Home\" shop did u go to ?

what is the name of these cabinet, if i ask the sales girl there ?
          Thanks for advice.

You can go to any of the stores
          http://www.japanhome.com.sg/our_stores.html
The item name is EZ (Colour) Cube with Door. The colours - White, Pink, Green, Orange. If they are not available at the store, ask to see the catalogue, you will find it there, the code for White Cube is 6800008.

I was also considering that. But I Sooooo dread the idea of me setting up the shelves myself! :faint:

It will make the job a lot faster and easier if you have an electric screwdriver. πŸ˜‚

              vhive bookselves FTW!

I got mine in 2000. Besides the shelves warping a little, they are still in fair condition. My own uni books are gone and they are being use for my children’s pr. school text books.

Only thing to remember about these DIY shelves is that heavy books should not be placed on the first n second racks but placed at the bottom.

                    Viola!

Advantages - Low cost, versatile, value-for-money
Disadvantages - Self-collection, self-assembly, quality corresponds to price (the colourful top is not a laminate, it is more of paper quality glued to the surface)

The stacked up shelves are held together by wooden joints but the stand alone shelves of various heights are just placed side by side.

Please be careful not to stack them up too high and make sure you put the heavy stuff at the bottom shelf, and light ones on top so it doesn't topple on your little ones if them pull at them.

Please note the price mentioned earlier is for one small cabinet. Not the whole lot. πŸ˜‚
