I feel the only attraction for Nanyang Kindergarten is 100% Chinese during the first two years. When K1 onwards, u may consider to transfer yr child to another school.


It's the curriculum that matters most. New Building is a bonus. Not forgetting the school fees increased from $560- $780. And this year incresed to $1400 before GST! About 100% increase because of new building.

U may try to request if u are able to see their worksheets.

Could you please let us know why you took your child out of Nanyang kindergarden after 1.5 years?

I too, received a call from the kindergarten that my son has been shortlisted for K1 next year (after waiting since 2007) and we are considering taking him out of his current montessori kindy even though he has adapted well in his cucrrent kindy).

I also heard that the principal has left. Do you know why?
Is the school well-managed and are the teachers caring? What is impt for me is that my son adapts well to the school and hopefully, by the time he graduates in K2, he is able to converse in Mandarin and socially adept and independent.

Also, I do not want to put my son in a regiment school curriculum that focuses too much on written work as I feel that the kids would have enough of that when they start primary school proper. What is impt is that they develop social skills and learn to be independent.

Could you please give us more feedback on Nanyang Kindergarten and its curriculum? Thanks.

I'll be glad to share but let me qualify that my kids were there quite sometime back and now things might be different now.

- Back then, the 100% emphasis in chinese were only limited to playgroup and nursery levels so if your child is admitting only at K1 level english will be taught; that is if things have not changed.

- I remember the kids had to climb up 3 storeys via staircase to get to the gym or auditorium on a daily basis and i thought that was dangerous with playful young kids. The building was previously occupied by the primary level students.

- No playground outdoor. I prefer huge outdoor compound.

- There were frequent changes of teachers, I don't remember seeing a permanent face. The principal back then did not appear caring, approachable nor personable to me unlike my kid's principal at another kindy i transferred her to who would personally receive kids from their school buses and when I called her she would know me and my kids by name.

- At that time parents were made to pay some sort of compulsory donation called 'Building Fund'. That was on top of the school fee we had to pay. We felt that a donation should not be compulsory. Things might be different now.

- The 100% immersion, albeit only for that 2-3 hours daily did not really help my kids. They still read mostly English story books and reluctant to speak in Mandarin. This is definitely my own fault coz we don't watch Chinese dramas on TV nor speak in Mandarin.

i was wondering if anyone has managed to get a place at NYK from the "public" waiting list.


I understand that they have a priority system in place i.e.
1. current sibling in NYK
2. ex sibling from NYK
3. alumni/parents who were from NYK
4. some kind of ties thru chinese hui guan (?)
5. public with no ties to the school

according to the lady at the admin office, she says there is almost 0% chance of getting into NYK if i have absolutely no ties to the school. However, i am free to put my child’s name down on the public waiting list but i will need to pay $100 admin fee.

any thoughts?

I juz received a call from NYK a few days ago informing me that they’ve a vacancy for my girl. I called them so long ago that I’ve totally forgotten about it! anyway, we’ve no ties with NYK in any way.
but i’ve not decided if we are going to take up the offer coz’ of all the negative comments posted in this thread, plus we’ve already registered with another school.

any parents has any recent experience to share? would greatly appreciate it.

Oh dear, i've just pull both my kids out from BRMCK to NY next yr. My gal will be N2, boy N1.


BRMCK have to place $400 deposit.Unless you gave them 3 mths notice, you'll have to forgo the deposit. Which is what is happening to me now. $800 down the drain.

i guess nanyang should be quite decent.

anyway, I’ve given up our place mainly coz’ it’s quite far from my place and I would prefer a bilingual education. plus i can’t view the campus as they’re in the midst of moving to the new school. and i can’t talk to any teachers coz’ it’s the school hols.
but funnily, i juz found out my neighbour is sending her grand daughter to nanyang too. and their reason is coz’ the girl’s cousins are all in nanyang.

hi, i have missed the waitlist for nursery 2011 for my kid born in 2008 as they have just opened the registration for kids born in 2009… any experiences from parents who have tried to register after the deadline.

Anyone has recent experiences with Nanyang kindy now that they have moved to the new site?


I have visited the new site, seems pretty airy (good flow of qi) in the main area, but the main classrooms are on the second level. There is a small playground area (with play structure), a main space for riding tricycles or activities, and a small space for sand and water play. They also have a gym room, a computer room, and a dance/music studio. It seems like they maintain quite a good level of hygiene in the classrooms: I was not allowed to step into the classroom with shoes on or before sanitizing (an uncle was cleaning the classroom during the break). The classrooms are bright and colorful with children’s artwork and both English and Chinese words around. There were two teachers per classroom, and children in there generally seemed to be quietly doing some work mostly independently (except one classroom where they were celebrating a child’s birthday). I saw a N1/N2 teacher smiling and interacting with her charges.

My DD2 has been offered a place (she admin person said last spot) in K1 class and I like it because of convenience (within walking distance). But there are some not-so-positive comments in this thread, and so I would like to hear more before committing.
