      Hi swimironkids,

Its been 2 months since my DS joined SAC in Nov 2012 and his 25m freestyle has since dropped by about 3s recently and should go below 20s very soon, its not fantastic timing but good progress. DS is also now doing 50m regularly and enjoying the training sessions wih new friends. He could not complete 50m when first joined SAC. DS is still hopeless in breastroke and backstroke (he says he is afraid he might hit his head). And he is still not confident to plunge into the pool from the \"what-do-you-call-that-thing-they-stand-on-to-dive-into-the pool\".

The downside is the class can sometimes be too big (more than 20 kids in 2 lanes) so it gets crowded and the faster kids are blocked by the slower ones. Also, there is no age category, so some big but slower kids swim in the same class as younger but fast kids. Its a bit strange to see....

Anyway, his appetite is scary. At the rate he is eating, I will go bankrupt just feeding him. I am also glad to say that his chest and abs are also forming very nicely, so are the broad shoulders and the arm muscles.

As for those vulgar kids, I've devised my own solution - my DS just dries himelf, change and goes home, no hanging around the locker room !

Just a bit of progress updates........

      God bless.
      Hi sunlight7,
Glad to hear that your DS is doing fine.
He will improve with time..just stay focus and kids are kids they will still have fun once awhile.
Yes I do agreed that at times it's congested but cnt help it cos due to limited lanes there..it's not easy to run a swim club I must stay .....
There one special need child there apparently he's the one using vulgarity...and the coach is aware of it and on and off the child is council.
According to my friend who text me last nigh, he went to the shower area and also monitor and there was no vulgarity there...his son is also training there 😄
Starting block is thing you stand on and practice your dive :xedfingers:
After all the swim he needs to replenish all energy....eat cheap and good food like bread with grapes, banana.....etc...hehe
Correct practice makes perfect and in no time he will also improve and gain confident in his breast and back :boogie:
      Cheers and God bless all!

My girl just uses the fins sold at her club. Cheap. About $15 a pair. Or less.

My girl can do 400IMs nowadays. And her strokes have improved significantly.
She smiles when she is in the pool, which is very important. It shows that she enjoys it and not hates it.

              Hi Wolfgirl and Swimironkids,

Tks for info. Is there any specific brand/model? Will checkout from mustafa too!

Adding to this thread. What the advices for newbie parent whose kids are going into competitive swimming?

How to help them overcome the laps swimming, at the same time the tough training wouldn't kill the swimming interest.

Just updating. Brought my girl for a swim with me this morning. She is able to match me stroke for stroke. I have to swim hard to keep up with her. (I do 50 free at average 1.02 leisure) so I estimate her 50 free is around 58s. Quite a good improvement…

I was happy and honored to be one of the few Coaches to attend the Singapore Swimming Association Awards & Appreciation Night 2013 last Sun to witness the awards of the sportsman of the year going to Joseph Schooling again!

Well done Joseph..he's still in US so his proud Mum collects on his behalf! 🙂

The best thing about Joseph Schooling is not his swimming prowess, it’s his personality. My son and a couple of kids met him in the pool once, he was chatting with them and hi-fived my boy when he realized that my DS was also in ACJS, Joseph’s alma mater.

Joseph Schooling is a polite, humble and well brought up young man, as far as I observed. There was no airs about him.
Well done, Mr and Mrs Schooling !

ya they are nice people! The mum took a glass of water for the emcee that night, the emcee said this is the first time someone ever offer him a drink after 10-15yrs in his business..hehe
Btw I was there think 3 weeks ago, so I went to the changing room after the training, no vulgarity and hope it stays that way 🙂
