i have DS, Wii, Xbox, PSP, gameboy advance etc...

      my son is in N2

Yes, he got hooked on PSP when he first got it as 4yold b'day present (grandpa), look at it now, a mere 1 month and he dropped the \"i only play with my PSP\" attitute.

child being a child, he still love jumping, running, swimming and minggling around. esp weekend when we bring him out to play with his favourite friend, the park, beach, ikea playland (so i can do some shopping too.. ehehheh)...

Give them exposure earlier is better then later. Try expose them only when they're teenage, they get hooked for years rather then months(not all of cos, but i am an example - got hooked on Diablo for 2years  )...

The time has come for me to buy PSP. It’s a promise that I made early this year (part of a deal we made) & my son has been looking forward to own one. My biggest concern will be how to control the play time & what type of games are suitable for him to play.

        Any suggestions?

Winterkim, I agree with your comment. Kids being kids, the novelty of the gadgets will wear off after sometime. Nothing beats playing with friends, running around & swimming. The only thing that I’m afraid of is when I’m working, there are no other activities during school holidays, he will be hooked to it from morning until I reach home in the evening.

EN, honestly, I really feel that the Nintendo DS is much more suitable for Primary school children than the Sony PSP. You just have to compare the game titles to understand why. The Sony PSP is primarily targeted at teenagers and adults.

            Hi

Spent my Sunday browsing & found the list of games with rating & a preview of what the games are like. There are not much games that are suitable for kids below age of 10+ unless I'm okay with cartoon violence. Here is the website.

            http://www.us.playstation.com/Search?search&type=Games&system=psp#

We bought a Nintendo DS 2 years back for his birthday. Still in working condition. Two handheld games will ensure my kids will not squabble especially if we are travelling for long hours.

Don’t waste his time on games. You will have a hard time getting him back on study track later.

I can’t imagine my boy might request for it soon! GASPS

My boy is 3yo and he loves our iPhones (for now). Many games for him and they are free. Plus there are many educational apps on the iPhone.

Hubs and I have decided not to buy any electronic games for him at all. We will not hestitate to invest in roller blades, bicycles, badminton rackets, kites, etc. However, electronic games are a big no-no.

We are considering a Wii for family fun, but my hubs said that if we really get it, he’ll lock it up and only take it out when it’s time to play.

My boy is already a little hooked on computer games (which my dad allows him to play). I agree some games train their hand-eye coordination & reaction. My boy’s fine motor skills are rather good too. However, we are trying to put a stop to all the gaming by buying more puzzles, simple toys and books for him.

I’m one of those against PSP for kids. Well, DS1 got it as a gift in P1 and I swear I’ve limited him to play only when we go out shopping. To be honest, I hardly go shopping. probably once a month kind of thing. Other than this, he is not allow to play.

He will find some sitting area to play PSP while I’m shopping in shopping centre.

For just barely a year, he got Myophia. Why I said PSP is the culprit because I hardly… very very hardly allow him to play computer games.

I’ve now stop him totally from PSP and he agrees to it.

This is only my case and for your reference. We blame ourself (DH & myself) not taking good care of his eyesight and exposing him too early for a handheld game devise.
