My dd also get 249 plus 2 and RV was the 1st choice, but she was posted to Nan Hua, we are apealing but still on wait list, wondering why??? Is yr dd some student leader or good ECAs record?
What I can think of, is the many decimal points to make up your dd 251 and justsay's dd 251. Posting to sec school is purley by T scores and nothing else. But unless RV is so popular choice that they have filled up the all vacancies, if not, you should stand a high chance. I still would suggest you call up the school, keep pastering, keep trying ... 😄

        Hi Whitely,
Our very helpful and kind Daisyt has replied you on your query and also in the RV thread. However, I understand how you and your daughter feel. My daughter cried when she received her PSLE result. She was expecting much better result. She wanted to get in RV so much and first thing that came to her mind was there's no hope. Her dream shattered. It was a real pleasant surprise for us that she got in. Nan Hua was her second choice too. During the selection process, I got to understand each school better. I must say in my opinion, Nan Hua is also a very good school. I would be very happy too if my daughter get into Nan Hua. They have all the good programs and produce excellent O level results. Well behaved students and niche in performing arts. The only difference is that RV is IP. You never know, good news is already on its way. It would be nice if your daughter's wish could be gratned. We are all with you. Good luck !

            Hi Whitely,

My dd is also in NH. It was our 2nd choice and 1st at RV. I persuded my dd to send in appeal at RV but she decided to stay with NH, we respected her decision as we also agreed that NH is a very good sch. Like mentioned by Diasyt on her earlier post that the main difference is that RV is on IP, NH also nutures good students in both character and academic. So whatever the outcome of yr appeal, yr child would be settled in either good sch.

              Hi julongmum

Thank for yr advice. We actually thought of without going thru 'O' level exam will eliminate the unecessary exam stress, so we wanted to place dd in RV which is IP but seem like things are not going our way, perhaps nature has decided what is the best for her, anyway, dd is also happy with NH and already making new friends in her class.

My dd's case very similar to justsay and julongmum. RV was her 2nd choice. She was very very close to get into her first choice but the bad news shattered her dream. I even try to comfort her, she could do well in year 1 and we tried to transfer her to her 1st choice. However, after the 1st week in RV, she fell in love with the school that she dropped the idea of transferring. She even told me, she promised to do well in RV, to make RV proud. 😄

We share the same sentiment abt skipping the o level thingy... but afterall, it may not be too bad to do one thing at a time, ie, o level then a level. yes, right, let nature takes its course.

look forward to the cca extravaganza tomorrow. has yr dd made any choices alr?

                      Hey all,

Yea, I agree that skipping the O Levels may be good in the sense that exam stress can be avoided. However, maybe I am part of the old school system [O Level, A Level then University], I feel that O Levels at least gives one a platform to fall back onto with a Certificate at least. Moreover, it’s a rather similar system that builds up to the A Levels, which is also conducted by the S’pore Cambridge Exams Syndicate. So it gives students more exposure probably to how Sg/Cambridge conduct their exams and who knows, that may be an advantage?

The Os to As systems is also trusted and proven over the years whereas the IP system is still a new kid on the block and it may still take years for it to really set in. Of course, IP students can’t fare too badly and I don’t think MOE will allow students in the IP to fare so badly, otherwise it will be a slap in their face that the IP system isn’t working. Hmm…come to think of it, maybe that’s why in recent years, more students have been getting straight As or maybe our kids have grown smarter? Haha, certainly food for thought.

Well, whichever the programme (Os or IP), I think each has its pros and cons. More importantly, it is best to quickly settle into the new sec sch environment and maximise the time there to get the best results in whichever programme. Sometimes in life, one does not have choices and just have to make full use of what’s available to us…haha!

All the best to all parents’ DDs to do well in their respective schools and yup, enjoy the CCA Extravaganza tomorrow!
