Hi.My daughter now at K2 have difficulty to do simple addition for 2 digits but after enrolled her at Kumon Gek Poh since Aug, she have no problem solve it in short time frame.
She started from Level 3A in August 2009 and early Nov already proceed to Level A.
Now, I intend to enrol her for English and Chinese as well. Any comments about the Kumon English and Chinese?
Thanks
From what I gather from my children's intructor, they will usually advice the kid to stick to one subject first and if she has no problem doing that subject, she can take a diagnostic test for EL or CL. -
Dear Kiasimom,
I signed up EL for her 2 weeks ago. Instructor not allow to sign CL as scared my girl cant cope. Kumon v professional...

I am only speaking from personal experience and agree that Kumon is not suitable for all children. I enrolled my 2 girls last year in June for math - elder was K2 and younger K1 - this was because I realised my K2 girl had difficulty doing even single digit +/-.
Both started from scratch on the advice of the center head. My elder daughter progressed quickly and her speed in mental math improved significantly within 3-4 months. She continued when she started P1 this year but recently stopped last month as she was good enough in the 4 operations. Kumon helped her to master her multiplication/division so I found that beneficial.
The usual complaint about Kumon is the constant drilling & repetitive worksheets. However, I found the daily work very helpful as I work full time and it instilled in them a discipline to do a bit a math everyday. Yes, it is not in line with MOE syllabus but I think Kumon is excellent for K1/K2/P1 years - I believe that if the child is strong in arithmetic basics, it helps in the long run. -

Oh yes, as mentioned before, they ensure that your child is good in one subject before they will let her take the diagnostic test for the next subject.Dear Kiasimom,

Did your girl sign up for their Maths? -
Dear Kiasimom,
Yes…she joined Kumon maths in Aug’09, and till recently I enrolled her for the English as well.
I considered sign up English as I saw improvement on her maths… -

Hi,
Does anybody know a good or hihgly recommended Kumon centre in the west? Say in Bukit Batok/CCK or Jurong area?

For Jurong area, you may consider Kumon @ Gek Poh and Kumon @ Jurong West Blk 502.
Kumon @ Gek Poh, students not so crowded and instructor Sam very caring and nice.
As for Kumon @ Jurong West Blk 502, heard so standard a bit higher and alot students there. Usually full during evening time and Saturday. But students there require to borrow books per week to read at home. There is a mini library, additional facility. -
One thing I like kumon is consistency, my DD make much much lesser careless mistake than before now.
