Sakamoto Maths Method consists of 3 simple basic steps. The first step is analyzing the problem, determining the essential facts from the question, and grasping the relationship of the data to each other. Here, the students organize and co-relate the information systematically in a tabular form. The second step is translating the information gathered in the first step into a linear diagram. The linear diagram will help the students determine and understand the logic behind the calculations that they must do in the next step. In the last step, students do the working and the calculations to arrive at the final answer.

Using the Sakamoto Math Method, students are trained to grasp the essence of the question and reduce it to a simple diagram formula.

      phtthp:
      for P1 / P2-

compare Sakamoto Maths & Andrew Er Maths, which is stronger / better ?
I noticed that there are many primary school kids who are weak in Maths are generally weak in numbers, ie addition and multiplication. Kids who are weak in P1/P2 will lose confidence later and will become weaker when they are in P3-P6.

Parents have to monitor their children to see their number skills. They should start them from young so that they will not lose interest in Maths at the later stage, which is the most important subject after English (compulsory subject up to sec 4).

Abacus will be a good start for pre-school and Sakamoto Method will be good for P3-P6 compared to other enrichment classes as their fees are low and highly affordable.

For pre-schooler, suggest CMA or any abacus programme which will enhance their addition, multiplication and numbers skills. For P3 and above, go to Sakamoto Method enrichment to help them ace their maths in PSLE :).

I attended the parents’ preview in Hougang. It’s a very good method and I have signed up my P5 son to attend the class and he loves it. Highly recommended! Great in solving this type of problem sums:

If I distribute 10 oranges to each of the children, I will be short of 30 oranges and if I distribute 8 oranges to each of them, I will be short of 6 oranges. How many oranges and children are there?

Attend the Sakamoto Parents Preview workshop to see if it benefits your child. I attended one of them and I personally find that Sakamoto method is a very good method that complements the model’s method. To quote the presenter, "the more challenging the question, the better it works".

There are some centres that are conducting Parents Preview workshop in Dec 2011 and Jan 2012 that you may want to consider attending. You can see how the method works and whether it benefits your child.

My son P4 this year just attended the 4-day Sakamoto Introductory course and he loves it! A lot of problem sum which takes a long time to solve can be solved using Sakamoto method in 1-2 mins. He will continue the course for next year.
