There is a change in syllabus in most H2 subjects for those taking A levels in 2018 onwards. This current syllabus is only up till 2017. My ah girl will also be sitting for the 2019 A levels - only 1 year of \"ten year series\" in the new syllabus to use as reference...magic formula needs to be re-discovered again :imdrowning:

There are 2 things that I refused to let my mum use when she was helping me care for kiddos.


Pacifier and powder. Luckily for me, no issues with mum there. Good thing too that kiddos did not have any skin problems or diaper rashes.

My in-laws used to criticise me for being weird and refusing to dust powder on my kids after bath and not using a pacifier when they cried. I didnt want to sai hei explaining to them knowing that they wouldnt believe me anyway, so I would just shrug and smile. :imcool:

Crabtree n Evelyn carries talc-free powder. I believe there are other talc-free powders that are cornstarch based. But I guess it takes years of exposure before there is a carcinogenic effect? Hopefully so, cos I remember my mum and aunts dusting copious amounts of baby powder on the diaper area of my younger siblings and cousins after bath everyday. :yikes:

Yup, the students will watch a video then give a verbal report based on the points raised in the video. Thereafter, there will be a discussion based on the topic in the video. Here's the link to the syllabus:

Are they better than canned abalones?

Nope, I've never tried cooking frozen or fresh ones before. Apparently, it is quite difficult to get the cooking time right cos if overcooked, the flesh becomes too tough. I remember watching an episode of Food Source on channel 8 where Pornsak went to an abalone processing plant in Australia. The owner sautéed a huge abalone, fresh out of the sea, with butter, garlic and some herbs. Pornsak had a plate of sliced, canned abalone prepared so that they could compare the taste and texture of both types of abalone. He commented that he preferred the canned ones cos the fresh ones were too chewy for his liking.

If you do decide to try them out, let us know how they turned out! Heh heh, I am eyeing the frozen sea cucumbers instead of preparing the dried ones. Meidiya supermarket has stocked lots of frozen seafood like huge crab legs and prawns for CNY - too bad my freezer space is limited, cos I feel like buying them all!

Janet is right. I think 舅公 is mil's bro...

Mil's sis hubby shd be 姨丈公？so 老丈 is the correct term in teochew

Thanks jetsetter! It is dioh 2! That's how I address my 大姑's hb...so I guess regardless of 姨丈 or 姑丈, the term to use is dioh! I remember having problems pronouncing that word as a kid cos it has a funny nasalisation sound at the end. Now the task at hand is to have my anglicised kids pronounce it right :evil:

Need some help from the experts here. My kids address my mil’s sister as 老姨 in Teochew. How should they address her husband in Teochew? They’ve been calling him Granduncle but I thought it’s kinda weird that they address her in Dialect then suddenly switch mode to ang moh?!
