Thanks Anne for your reply. How many subjects to be graded? How about third language ie. MSP?

All the academic subjects (except Music, Art, PE) are graded and \"counted\". You can see the subjects from the booklist.
For IB students, its Language Art, Mother Tongue, Geography, History, Physical Sc, Life Sc, Maths.
      (+ third language).

Oxbridge admissions dominated by top schools

Oxbridge is dominated by a small group of elite schools, with over half the students accepted over a decade educated at just 250 institutions.

An investigation by Varsity, looking at 11 undergraduate intake cycles over the decade from 2006 to 2016, shows the huge proportion of students who come from a small number of schools.
      .....
Of the top five schools for overall intake, three – Westminster School, Eton College and St Paul’s School – are UK independent schools that charge day pupils over £20,000 a year. Eton and St Paul’s are all-male, while Westminster admits female students to its sixth form. Hills Road Sixth Form College, which is adjacent to Homerton college, is ranked third, with Raffles Junior College in Singapore placing fifth despite a below-average success rate. St Paul’s Girls’ School, which ranks sixth overall, has the most strikingly high success rate among the top schools: over 50% of its pupils who applied to Oxbridge over the cycles were accepted......

Hi, may I know what is the grading system for express year 1-4?

They follow the \"O\" level grading system in express (A1 >75 marks; A2... etc)
For the IB program (which my son is in) and they use the IB Grade 1 to 7 (7 is >80)

In Sec 1 last year , there was a mid year exam (30%). Term 3 assessment was Class Test for express (20%) and Coursework for IB students (20%) (i.e each subject you need to do a project, could be individual or group depending on subject). Then final exam in term 4 (50%).

This year there should be a change since no mid year exam for year 1 (MOE).

for Maths, due to tight schedule, amongst these Top schools' Maths paper (Tao Nan, Nan Hua, Nanyang) : which one should a P6xer practise from ?
(no time to practise from all the 3 schools, but only one)
Nanyang : For Maths - Practice paper 2 if no time to do whole paper. The harder questions are in Paper 2.

For Math, one technique I have taught my kids is to not spend too much time on the difficult questions, but spend some time to check that they have the easy questions 100% correct.

Assuming one has CO from both HCI and RI, which would be the choice?

Not sure about past years, but for 2017 DSA, HCI has imposed a very high standard for Maths & Science domains. Must be gold or platinum winners at Olympiads in order to be even shortlisted for HDP. Thus, there will have many top-calibre Maths/Science students to spur their schoolmates. Additionally, HCI has traditionally been known to strongly promote Chinese culture, language and values, which (in the current China era) is a big plus point. So I guess (just a guess) HCI has an edge over RI in terms of DSA acceptance.
For P6s, it is natural that many parents focus on comparing the Y1-Y4 programs. I feel it is equally important to look at Year 5-6 program leading up to the A level exams. For IP students who are not taking O levels, the A levels (or IB) results will be be used for university admission. Heard from an insider source that in terms of A level results, HCI is distant second behind RI (in past years). A level results is of course only one aspect, but it reflects the strength of the Y5-6 program & quality of teaching. The schools released press releases on their A level results on their websites so that is another point for research.

      Go to school:
      phtthp:

      dear \"Go to school\",

I know what to do now. In the Transfer case, I will have to do more homework.

\"What special talent that Nanyang school likes?\" --my daughter only learns Piano, nothing else special talent; but she is very kind, helpful, love reading and learns fast which her teachers often appraise.
Is it possible to get transfered within the first school year?

Generally, it is difficult to get a transfer to Nanyang Primary. The waitlist is long. You could check the no of registration vs vacancies of RGPS and Nanyang on the last day of Phase 2C before you decide. NYPS 2C most likely would have a ballot within 1km, but sometimes there are surprises. Also historically the balloting odds are usually quite good.

Is there still a distinction between Core/Merit CCAs or can any be taken as a main CCA?
All CCAs can be main CCA, except Library, Tamil Dance and may be one other. There was a CCA briefing for Yr 1 parents at the begining of the year (I think at the orientation tea). If you are contacting the CCA Head, ask him (its a him) for a copy of the slides. Clubs and societies reduced their intake this year. I remember many of them have < 5 slots. However do not worry as the CCA Head assure parents at the briefing that every girl will get to a CCA acceptable to her.

      Go to school:
Is it time to apply PVin NYPS for year 2009 born kids? I went through the school website didn't find information yet

this is the link on the school website :
      http://www.emailmeform.com/builder/form/6Vl8v2RbEezCA5htc

\"For Singaporean and Singapore PR children born in the year 2009, the closing date for registration will be 31st July 2013.

The PV selection is not on a first-come, first-served basis. The school has the final and sole discretion in inviting shortlisted applicants for an interview, with the representatives of the school and members of the Parent-Teacher Association, which will be held in November/December 2013. We seek your understanding that the school will not be able to share with you the reasons for non-selection.

Successful PVs will be notified by year end to commence their service in area(s) which the school deems fit. They are to ensure that they will be able to meet the minimum 80 hours of voluntary service by June 2015 if they would like to be eligible for Phase 2B of the Primary One Registration Exercise.\"

Traditionally Nanyang has more volunteers than vacancies in phase 2B. Those living within 1 or 2km have much better chances as they may avoid balloting. But it is an excellent school !
