GLORYmum, the kids will be fine. I was in your shoes last year. DS didn't make it to RI. It seems to be his dream Sch then. But today he is very happy and proud to be in DHS. Seeing him so happy now, I'm no longer sad that he didn't make it into his dream sch.
      True. 塞翁失马,焉之非福 ?

Usually kids' dream school are influenced from their adults. It is usually more like their adults' dream school. They themselves will adjust, make new friends and settle down quickly.

hi, anybody know what is the average oral score? My son just completed his oral this morning and he by accident he saw he score 15/20 for reading.

Kids are so cute. Last time my ds could see his score too .. :rotflmao:

I would say, 15/20 is above average. Was told the excellent one (expressive type) can score up till 18 or 19/20 for reading.

I just wonder how many students or parents will give up a CO from RI, instead take up the offer from other schools? Maybe a few percent.

I have seen, also heard many parents and students who received multiple CO mentioning \"not sure which one to choose\", \" my DH and DS and DW perfer other schools but my son want to follow his classmate\", \"my heart is with my Alma mater, but my head telling me to go with RI\", ...etc. In the end also go to \"Bishan Hill.\" :? :? :?

well said. I asked the same questions few days before any one choose NUSH for RI no replies hmmm.

I am in same boat . I am :please: praying my DS takes wise decision and comes to reality that Brand name / Alma mater/long history/Friends wont help him to craft his future the way he wants.

In 2008 batch it happened that many of our GEP boys who have CO from RI & HCI chose HCI over RI. Todate, most of our high ability boys also chose HCI over RI with T-score above 260.

Can’t help but to login again. This thread is going to move very fast now…

Still remember two years ago, we parents had another round of discussion immediately after kids reporting home as to if the picture should be 蛋糕点 or 快餐店 in the end we found that they are both acceptable and feel relief … When result release, yes both kids got A* … so sweet in all our memories…till now, unforgettable.

I don't understand why taking a train by himself is so dangerous for your ds. My dd from RGS also had to attend such an activity and took a bus and then train back home. The school had only arranged one-way transport to the venue.

She followed a group of girls back to the MRT. Let them learn. Taking bus and train in Singapore is perfectly safe.
I also remember my ds chose to come back on his own directly from CCK by public transport last year as it is more direct than going back to school. Probably most sec 1 are still in their early stage of taking public transport, but very soon they may tell you they do not want you to fetch (may be paisay liao) and they can come back on their own. So it is good to teach and orientate them how to take public transport earlier, before sec 1 begin, the kids learn very fast. 😉

Yup, it is a good idea to start sourcing for sec 1 during the holiday. For other subjects i am not sure, but for Chinese language, I saw new titles released late last year and early this year from sec 1 onwards which cater to those doing the newest syllabus. Hope by year end, we have more selection as sec chinese assessment books are limited.

I am still learning to buy appropriate assessment book for primary level (painful process). Secondary school kids are so busy, do they still have time to do any assessment ? Will need to seek advice from parents who have kids in sec 1...when my son is done with PSLE.

You are rigt sec sch kids are so busy that school homework project, discussion and cca are their priority list. Assessment book usually become white elephant. You can buy one and try if he will do first.

Any parents here have gone through this with their sec ds/dd, kindly share your experience, such as how difficult it is to find a reasonably good non-IP school to get transfer to prepare for their child GCE'O' level? Or, no choice, just got to go any school with vacancy?

hmm.....u wanna to transfer yr son out out of HCI ?? :?
or just seeking info for others?

Hi Augmum, I posted tis in 2010. seeking info for others only. Thanks! 😉
