I wonder whether Grab and Uber just pulled the rug from under COE prices...

Good guess. The PHVs accounted for quite a lot of COEs in the past 2 years. Now what might happen is that not only will they stop bidding for COEs, they might have a lot of old vehicles that they might want to let go off, as they have been and will continue to sit idle... That will give some downward pressure to used car prices, which will indirectly affect new car prices too.

GST going up... expecting the same for coe

well it didn't really spike, despite the expected increase after the recent drop.

Looks like interest in cars is not huge at the moment.

That's a good deal, at that time.

I suspect it might have been even cheaper last week. Could have gone up a bit already, once the crowd starts packing the showrooms.

collected the car on 28/2. salesman said now new car backlog until may. no stock.
now new car number plate is SLW7xxx already.

Who says cars are too expensive? Backlog so long... all the car salesmen should all get fat bonuses liao...

      That’s cheap! When was it?

      mid december.
waited 2 months plus for the car.

for older car with higher coe, still better at keeping it ?

it was reported yesterday many people are extending their COEs...that gives workshops more business.
for Cat B, COE drop to $39K is quite attractive.

Sigh... when i wanted it to drop - and couldn't wait anymore as car was expiring - then it held up. Now then drop...

But after the showroom frenzy last weekend, next round's bidding sure will go back up again one lah... just hope it doesn't go exceedingly high and will remain attractive to buyers lor...

Confirm will go up lor. Double whammy.

Next quarter’s quota will go down, according to their magic formula (which still allows for car population growth, albeit much reduced from the heydays’).

Then the announcement that they will stop the (already low) car population growth next year, will mean even fewer COEs available.

Admittedly the reduction (from growth) is not significant as it’s so low now anyway, but it’s still from a (small) positive number dropping to zero.

Unless interest in car ownership (or demand) wanes significantly, this will surely mean COE going up… can only hope it’s not going to jump to those $100k level again…

Yes, it's much safer to drive at slower speed than to stress having to overtake here and squeeze there, and at the same time watching out for TP.

Many cars can do that, and do well too. The wish that we have, can cruise at low FC, which is much much better than when pressed hard and stopping frequently in city driving.

Such cars and driving patterns help preserve the environment.

Well, the Mazda2 is a good, serviceable, family drive. After driving for many years, I actually enjoy cruising at a more normal 80-90km/h in the 2nd lane going from Pasir Ris to Jurong (my in-laws) during weekends. It's quite calming. Not so much days of chionging 100+ at lane 1 or having to overtake cars in lane 1. Those days are over for me.. 🕺

[quote=\"atrecord\"]OK, if it was a 2-litre Lancer, then it should be an Evo.

I find it almost unthinkable that your husband would switch from Evo to Mazda 2. It's like moving from 3-bedroom condo in Orchard to a 3-rm HDB flat in an outskirt town... 😂

I had to remind him that he needs to think of his family and that car can be quite dangerous if he does not handle it properly.

Why not just sell or scrap it since it is a very old car and just get a normal hatchback instead. It is a win-win situation maybe except for the car.Everyone will feel comfortable driving the new hatchback.

He vaguely told me that car is a classic.Featured in Jackie Chan's racing movie.

[quote=\"Huiwen86\"]That car is initially ok for my husband but as the years went by,he found it to be a bit bothersome with the finances cos it is high maintenance and needs petrol every few days. That car has a 2.0 engine if I am not wrong.

I suggested a hatchback instead so that's when the Mazda 2 came in.He is ok with auto but he is used to be having a clutch and left hand moving all the time when he is driving.

He obviously loves you and the family more than his Evo - which I think is, well, not rare, but probably not the majority for the group of people who drive/own those cars.

Can't really imagine someone who loves a performance car like the Evo, switching to a completely tame(r than most) Mazda 2 😉

Yup, Jackie Chan must have had tie-ups with Mitsubishi, to always be driving Mits in his new movies in the past, always the Evos. But i think the last such tie-ups was probably long ago... but oh, you did mention that Evo was long ago too.

Good for you. I've not had the chance to sit in any such performance cars before.

Is he/she more of a car dealer or a friend to you? If former, he/she will still try to make some money off you. If latter, then you're very lucky.

Friend. even though he is a friend, we never expected any favours. He still does earn some off each of our car transactions. It is his livelihood afterall. However, we can trust that he will not be ripping us off.

OK lah, if that's the case. It's only fair that he can earn something if it's part of his job. And it's good that you see it this way too. I always wonder whether, let's say a car dealer's cousin ask him/her to help sell a car, will the cousin expect FOC service or not... If so, then the car dealer will be busy but maybe jobless if got many such relatives/friends...

If you don't mind the hassle and is curious to know how it works (i was), then it's not a bad idea to try to sell the car yourself. Can be quite ley chey, but can save a few months' petrol + carpark (maybe ERP, insurance, road tax even 😄 ) if you sell on your own.
