B & C

forestcadee:

Hi, need help on the following question. Thanks.

A boy was playing a football game. Which of the following body systems interacted together to enable him to play the game?

A: Digestive system
B: Circulatory system
😄 Respiratory system

1) A & C only
2) A & B only
3) B & C only
4) A, B & C

The answer is A,B and C. The functions of the 3 systems are continuous processes. They happen all the time throughout the day. Whether we are sleeping or playing, we need food to produce energy all the time and it is a continuous process. So the digestive system must work continuously even when sleeping. In fact we need more food when playing football than sleeping because more energy is needed. Therefore, the digestive system works harder when we are active.

If we have not had proper meals and engage in strenuous activities, we may faint because there is not enough food for the digestive system to transfer to the circulatory system. So we drink glucose, a form of digested food for immediate absorption into the circulatory system through the small intestines.

There are 3 ways that the conditional "if" clause is used.

1. In present tense. It refers to a present or future time for a situation that is possible to happen, like celebrating the birthday for someone who is alive.

2. In past tense. It refers to the present for a situation that is impossible to happen, like celebrating the birthday for someone who has already died.

3. In past perfect tense. It refers to the past for a situation that had already happened, like celebrating last year’s birthday for someone.

I guess the teacher is right unless the person concerned has already passed on.

Just my personal opinion, a little far fetched.
But if it were true, I wholeheartedly believe he deserves to be there. He seems to be a puppet anyways.
Ya, just letting my imagination run wild this morning and come to this conclusion after going through the sequence of events. It appeared that hhh is the schemer and instigator. To me, Roy is naive. Otherwise he would not write unfounded allegations that got himself into trouble. Hope he knows what he is doing and he is sincere in what he set out to do. There are many others who do it for attention, fame or other cynical motives.

Some how I feel that it is trap. Hhh and roy had just fall into it.
Poor kids and parents. Victims of the whole saga...

Ya, it is a trap laid by getting YMCA to plan for the event months before anyone even know who HHH is.

Ya, it is a trap laid by getting special needs children to prepare themselves for months to perform on stage knowing HHH and gang will come heckling them.

What a trap this is, what a trap.

Just pure speculation. It appears that the trap is none other than hhh herself. Her notoriety first surfaced through a lawsuit by CPE and was subsequently settled out of court. In a way, she won. There are too many unanswered questions like why suit in the first place and then back out subsequently? Is their legal council really so hopeless? Anyway, through this episode, she has established herself as a so-called opposing voice. She was here, there, everywhere, coming up with all kinds of anti-establishment notions.

Roy got himself into a sensitive issue and was silly with his remarks - he is simple minded. He is not a threat. However, the intention to nip the bud backfired when there was overwhelming donations from the public. It was an embarrassment and Roy' popularity needs to be contained. Forceful means wouldn't work now as any legitimate official action will be viewed by the public as bullying. This is where hhh comes in handy. Supporting him on the surface but leading him into a shit hole.

This question about organisms surviving and not decomposition. It was similar to one of DS's school questions and he was marked wrong by teacher when he wrote blood contains digested food.
So the main aim of the organisms to survive is to take in nutrients. Without nutrients the organisms cannot survive.

Just to share........
Not sure if your ds school question is \"what is blood made up of or what does blood contain\". Blood does transport food. So it contains food but is not made up of food.

Can anybody help with this question?

A group of pupils wanted to find out the temperature changes in a pond and a leaf litter habitat. They took turns to use a data logger to measure the temperature in both habitats at 6 a.m., noon, 6 p.m. and midnight. What should the temperatures of the pond and leaf litter habitats be at the timings?

Sorry, I am not a data logger. Hence I am unable to give you the exact temperature.

But I am able to tell the difference in temperature (not exact, but just > or <) between the two habitats.

At 6 a.m., temp of pond > temp of leaf litter
At noon, temp of pond < temp of leaf litter
At 6 p.m., temp of pond < temp of leaf litter
At midnight, temp of pond > temp of leaf litter

Hope that the information is useful to you.

Hi Trevortan
I think what you want is a comparison of the temperature in the pond/ leaf litter with the external temperature. When it is hot outside (12 noon), the temperature in the pond / leaf litter will be lower than the external temperature. When it is cold outside, the temperature in the pond / leaf litter will be higher than the temperature outside.

The reason is both water and dead leaves are poor conductors of heat. So they slow down the flow of heat into / out of the water / leaf litter

Hi KKTeo

Glad that you use the lizard example.

"The lizard drops it’s tail." if use as a stand-alone sentence to describe an action is grammatically wrong.

To show action, then it should be "The lizard drops it’s tail today."

If we add a condition behind :

"The lizard Will drop it’s tail only when threatened." then I fully agree that it is behavioral.
Or
The lizard CAN drop it’s tail only when threatened." then I think it is structural.

Back to "E) Grasshopper produces bad-tasting foam". I read it as "Grasshopper CAN produce bad-tasting foam as form of adaptations to escape from their predator, since it will be grammatically wrong for that sentence to mean "action".

Well in conclusion, it is bad English that cause such ambiguity and the good thing is that psle questions are set by sec and above teachers so they are pretty careful with their language especially for science.

S-H:
But grasshopper behaves by producing bad-tasting foam to escape from its predators and producing bad-tasting foam is not a special parts of it to help it to survive, thus I think this is behavioural adaptations. What do u think?

I understand your view. You are considering the actual action of \"producing\" while I am looking at the \"ability\" to produce.

Let's use an angler fish for discussion (which has a feeler-like structure ) It can chose to produce or not to produce light at the tip of the feeler.

If The statement given in the option is :

\"Angler fish produces light to attract its prey\"

Is the above statement referring to the action of the fish \"switching on\" it's light or is it referring to its ability to produce light. I think it is referring to the ability. (In English grammar, simple present tense is use for statement of fact, not action. For action, there should be indication of present time e.g. Now) Therefore, if the intention is to refer to the act of \"switching on\" the light, a more specific way (appropriate tense) should be used :

\"Angler fish will produce light to attract its prey.\"

Justanothermum:

Thank you

In answer key it is 1 - A and B only
Need help
Which of the following are examples of behavioural adaptations of animals to escape from their predators?
A) Armadillo rolls into a ball
B) Frilled Lizard pops out the skin around its neck
C) Stripes on a zebra
D)Butterfly with eyespots
E) Grasshopper produces bad-tasting foam
1) A and B only
2)A, B and E only
C) B, C, and E only
D) A, C, D and E only

My child's view is that the grasshopper can only deter predators with the foam, but this action won't help it to escape. I reason with him that in that case, the lizard's scare tactic is also meant to deter predators. He said the scare tactic momentarily throw the predator into confusion to aid its escape, which is different from grasshopper's spitting. What do you all think ?
E is not behavioral because the taste of the foam is produce by the body and that is structural. It cannot produce bad-tasting foam by behaving differently if its body system (structural) does not have that capability. So the answer is (1). In fact option B is both behavioral and structural as without the loose skin, it can't pop it out.

Hi, what's the answer for the above question? Thanks!

(3) is correct.

The population of the trevio increases as the population of the rhinoceros increases. So the curve of trevio will lag behind the rhinoceros.
I agree with your explanation but with the curve of Trevino lagging behind rhinoceros , isn't that shown in (1) and not (3)?
