all the odd classes are IP class. 1.1,1.3,1.5,1.7,1.9 total 5 class. even classes are o level. 1.2,.14,1.6,1.8 total 4 class.

How many in each class? My son in 1.9 said his class has 35 students. Is it the same across all IP classes?

I suppose the class allocation is random?

How come IP class soooo large?!!! Then not much different from O-level classes.

My elder boy in another IP school, there's only 25 students each class.
My elder son in RI also 25 per class.

i have 3 sons. 2 graduated from maris in year 2006 and 2010. my youngest is p3 this year. The PSLE prep experience that my elder 2 boys received was very different from what was described in the earlier 2 posts.

With the youngest in p3 now, I felt that the standard has gone up a lot compared to years ago.

I guess my boys were lucky to have their commited teachers.

      hope this helps.

      I guess the
Agree, teachers make the world of difference. Just thought that most schools would give the best and most committed teachers to the P6 classes.

My son is currently in P6 preparing for mid year exam now. I must say that I am very disappointed with the preparation the P6 students are receiving.

I have an elder son who was previously with Nanyang Primary. The quality and quantity of work sheets given by the 2 schools are quite different. For Math, MSHS worksheets were mainly from the practice workbook and some MSHS past papers, wherelse NYPS had a lot more in-depth challenging questions on top of the past yrs papers and workbook. My son’s Math tuition teacher who has students in St Andrew commented that MSHS’s Math homework are very much lesser as compared to other schools. Mothers of past MSHS P6 boys also complained to her that MSHS gave out little homework.

At the start of the year, son told me that his English teacher said she will not be giving out a lot of homework to them this year so as not to stress them out. Now that we are mid year through, i realised the teacher kept to her word, OMG. If the school dont prepare them well this last P6 year, then when?

Since there is the P1 registration coming along shortly, I thought I’d just share with parents that it might not be worth it to push too hard to come to MSHS.

    • Addiction to computer games

My sons are highly addicted to computer games, in fact, I think it became an obsession for them now. I restricted the hours they can play by locking up the computer and ipad. They have tried all sorts of method to lay their hands on the computer, like stealing my drawer’s keys and waking up at midnight to play till 2-3am, used screw driver to break into my drawer when I’m away on overseas trip. Yesterday, I just discovered that both of them went to play at an internet cafe about 10 minutes away from home. Told the maid that they were going downstairs to play soccer.

I’m really at my wits end on how to curb this obsession. Can someone pl help.
Hi to all RI parents

My son has just gotten his progressive report and did badly for his HMT Chinese. He is in Sec 1. 😢 Would appreciate anyone of you to give good advise to tackle this subject. Thank you very much!

My son did badly for his HMT too, 59 marks only. Yours?

I went to Popular to buy a Chinese assessment, he got more than 50% wrong for Cloze passage and I tried to go through the correct answers with him. I realised then that the meaning of the words were so close that even I dont know what the correct answer was. A shame that I score A in A level Chinese, albeit more than 10 years ago.

My son did worst that, he only scored 45. Finding it difficult to squeeze out time on weekdays to teach him or send him for tuition classes. On week ends he is always occupied with projects n homework. Does your child have this similar issue?
No, on the contrary, my son is really free, no homework, occasional project work. Kept pestering me to let him play the computer at night and on weekends. Understand from other parents in this forum that RI indeed has less homework.

My son has never been the self-motivated kind, his motto is \"average will do\". If I can get him to do 10% of what meimeitan suggested, he'd not be in this state in the first place.

Since you have no time to send him for tuition, why dont you engage a tutor to come to your house?

I gave my son 2 choices: 1) read the Chinese newspaper and watch the Chinese news daily or 2) Chinese tutor.

He chose the latter simply cos the amount of time required is lesser. 😢

my nephew finds RI fun, not too much homework, but more projects. guess he's coping well

Is it really true that there is less homework in RI? My DS is in Yr 1 and he hardly has any homework. But my niece also in Sec 1 in a neighbourhood school is struggling with piles of homework everyday.
