Anyone else not impressed with principal’s talk on 22 Dec? Heard she is new and wanted to reserve my thoughts until 22 Dec.. was not impressed...esp the way she just nonchalant skim thru the school achievement and keep emphasizing us parents more keen to buy uniforms n textbooks.

To be fair, I think it's a bit premature to judge the new principal based on just one speech. I personally had no problem with her going through the logistics cos that was useful information to me. I have heard from sources that she is a kind and caring principal, which is reassuring to know.

The previous principal Mrs Tan was one of those charismatic and dynamic leaders rarely found in Spore's education landscape. She left big footprints that any successor would find hard to to fill. But as we all know, change is part of life. I am prepared to be open minded going forward.

Just submitted the form. After so much deliberation over the IP schools, DS feels more comfortable with the O level program so we will support his decision.

Good for you for being such a supportive parent!

      1)Fairfield Methodist:

Feedback from friend whose son studied there: top classes have motivated students but the rest of the students tend to be less academically driven. Student must be self motivated in order to do well academically; don't count on peer pressure cos that may not be prevalent.

      2) St Margaret's:
Feedback from relatives with kids who studied there: high value add school, caring teachers and nurturing learning environment. I have personally visited the school- old campus, quite small n facilities are not state of the state. Conclusion : it's software over hardware - the outside doesn't impress but the inside is sound.

      Hope that helps.
Hi myteapot! Thanks; my girl is excited to be going to her choice school next year.

All the best to your son in his future endeavours and congrats to you too.

      Hi,

Does anyone have any feedback on St Margarets vs Fairfield Methodist, and Swiss Cottage vs Commonwealth Secondary? In terms of academic performance, school culture and student behaviour? Thanks in advance.

      Mum Needs Advice:
Sorry May I know if this year PSLE score was better , as in more students did well?

Yes many schools reported a stronger showing in this year's psle performance compared to last year. Hence the general consensus is that COP of popular schools will go up cos of the overall good performance of this year's cohort. To be safe, factor this into consideration when selecting yr choice of schools.

      Hello!

My DD scored 259 for PSLE +2 for HMT. The schools she had chose was NJC and RV. Should we take the risk of SCGS, since some people say that the teachers are kind of biased? And RGS since the cut off point is 261? I know RGS isn't an SAP school, so should we take the risk? We live in the Bukit Panjang area. Please give recommendations!

      Thank you!
Sorry, a bit puzzled here. Where did you hear that SCGS teachers are biased? From parents with kids studying there? And who are the teachers biased against? O levels students? Or non affiliated students?

Is question 5 推动 or 扩大?

      扩大
A P6 CL teacher in DD's school confirmed the answer is 推动。

    • RE: DSA 2017

We never intended DD to take the DSA route. Always thought it was only for GEP kids, national athletes or brilliant top scoring all-rounders - all of which DD doesnt fall under!

However MOE’S intention of scrapping GAT n focusing on individual talent made me sit up and take notice. Plus DD was showing signs of exam anxiety and we were worried she would not deliver under PSLE exam stress.

So long story short - here I am, biting my nails and waiting for the mailman everyday.

It’s been quite a ride but through it all, I learnt something abt my DD - that she is so much stronger and tougher than I ever thought she could be.

And that knowledge alone is worth the DSA journey.

Thanks 3ofthem for your sharing! It's always nice to hear inspiring personal stories in \"turbulent\" times, and remind ourselves that DSA/PSLE is just another phase in life that we have to face, and that life and self-worth are much more than this.

Agreed. Thank you 3ofthem for sharing your experiences. All the best to your daughters as they continue on their life journey.
