:congrats: Since your dd did make it to RGS. :rahrah:
Well I have two kids and both are at the other end of the spectrum. So I understand the feeling of being disappointed and heartbroken just as much as I understand the ‘top of the world’ feeling. It takes a lot of mental strength to move on from a hard fall. It sucks. So I’m here to share my experience and let those who have ears hear! 🥶

Hi I was a PSLE 2023 Mum too and here to share advice. Do not be too fixated over the schools your child can attend. I have seen my boy’s classmates getting all stressed up because they only wanted the top tier schools. My boy was fearless and relaxed because we have been telling him to get the results first then we think about the schools. We also paced him slowly and worked on the weaker topics first instead of rushing into exam papers (too much drilling kills the joy of learning and remember psle is only the beginning not the end). He continues to pursue two of his favourite sports up till August and even though we let him try DSA for the experience and he didn’t manage to get any, he was fine with it and continued to work hard and his eventual psle score was half of what he did in P5 SA2. He entered the school he originally tried DSA for and now he is free to choose any cca (he’s generally athletic and loves a variety of sports). I am enjoying watching him develop his independence. He just got his own phone too (with rules and restrictions) after year of co using my phone as there are too many teachable moments. He has no complaints at all although he’s the last in his p6 class to get a phone. Jiayou!! Continue to encourage your kids and motivate them on the small improvements..help them to focus by minimising distractions and give them lots of moral support. 🙂
I echo this. I was also a psle 2023 mom. My daughter had no dream school she was fixated on. It freed her to simply doing her best and let her results decide for her which school she should go. There was another girl who had been fixated on going RGS and only RGS. That girl tried to DSA to RGS to say the least but did not make it. Of course her next best option was to enter by her PSLE results. From the onset i perceived that she studied harder than my daughter- heard she studied till 12 midnight. Unfortunately, the girl didn’t make it to RGS with her results. My girl did make it to RGS- even though she had never been fixated to go RGS. I wouldn’t say both girls are academically very far apart. I suppose the pressure got to the other girl. But what I see is that my daughter had been freed from having to meet high expectations and simply did her best and see how. That sense of freedom ironically helped her to do well. You can have a dream school but don’t be too sticky about it. Give yourself a wider range; anything can happen- I’ve seen a 4 pointer dropped to 7/8 pointer in PSLE. Cater for such situations. Don’t just die die aim only one and that one school (especially more so if you are aiming top schools). Otherwise you will have to nurture a broken, disappointed heart (not just your child’s but also yours) and it may be even harder to accept the alternative school hence affecting school life.

Hi,

My son is in P6 now and has been drawing since little. Attached last drawing of his dad. Everyone encouraged him to apply for Visual Arts in SOTA, however we are concerned if he could sustain the academic rigour once inside, because he is not academic at all. His P5 AL was 22 so he had to work hard to bring this to at least 20 to qualify for the required level, to begin with. He did better in languages but both English and Chinese were still at AL 5 also. Any thoughts from experienced SOTA parents? I wonder if kids who can’t study like this will be better off taking normal O level or IB which is supposed to be more holistic? Thanks in advance.

I’m not a sota parent. But my advice is that results should come before talent. Your concerns are valid. I like to encourage you that it’s not necessary that he has to go Sota to hone his gift. Whichever school he goes; there are many options to help in his artistic talent. Perhaps find a secondary school within his range that has solid art programs? Or find private classes for him. I don’t think it’s necessary to go sota. My daughter is an avid dancer; but it was never in our minds to go sota to delve in her craft as she feels she’s getting equally good training outside. What I’m saying, there’s no one route to help achieve his goals; there are many ways ! 🙂

That link is not up anymore 😀
Sorry I missed this. The letter given to the girls on PSLE day would have stated that she’s offered the ESIS scholarship. Although the letter did say scholarship will be confirmed along with the posting results (that’s why I thought it was subjected to approval and wanted to make sure 😅) . But as long as you are offered and chose ip, it’s all yours. 😉

May I know if the girls will be given locker or some sort of safe keep to keep their handphones on the first day/week of school?

Hi where did you check & confirm? Pls advise
Go to the same link you used to submit secondary school choices (use the same pin given). Log in, you should see the scholarship along with the secondary school she’s posted to. Hope this helps!

Were this year’s math & sci papers easier? If so, that could account for more boys having better total score. (I know, very broad generalization of boys being better in math & sci…)

So far didnt notice any girls schools cop shifting towards more stringent.
Maths paper was harder than 2022 paper, but easier than 2021 (Helen and Ivan saga) paper. 2022 maths paper was unexpectedly very easy but many kids also unexpectedly did poorly. Unexplainable. Science, had a couple of tricky questions in mcq and I think that made or broke some kids this year.
