Can anyone advise what does SST look for in a student’s academic result? A* in Math and Science? I am looking at their Supplementary Intake Exercise. Thanks in advance.

      skii:
Was heart broken when my wife and I found out that our 2.5 year old son had a -7.

Having the Asian face, with a low nose bridge, our PD(s) wanted the kid to be checked for squint, or maybe pseudo squint.

As we were quite certain it is just the fake squint, we went to polyclinic and then got an appt with KkH eye centre 2 months later.

Went to the appt happily as we were told the kind only has a pseudo squint. However, the doctor suspect myopia and did more test.

Eye drops to dilate pupils and the usual machine checks. After 2+ hours, we were told he had a -7 and -6.5.

There were a few tell tale signs but we totally missed it. Sad. I play with my kid everyday and still missed the signs.
      Haizzzxzz.

      Confused + scared + sad.

Going to optical shop 2 days later.
Sorry to hear this...He's only 2.5 years old. Did doc says its partially due to genetic? Will you be continuing at KK Eye Centre?

Breez, maybe the eye doc felt that the power did not go up too much and did not feel a need to do any myopia control?
Yes probably... But given that both private eye doc & HPB did eye test without eye drops, and both centres generated different results. This is scary to me... Whose test result should I trust??

Private eye doc then suggest he dun change his specs since increase is not much. But HPB double check his eyes with eye drops and test result confirmed that his degrees has increased by 100 degree. The test result by HPB is same with & without eye drop...

When I told his eye doc that I am sure he is not seeing well. She just tell me to follow up with a visit in 3 mths instead of the 6 mths. How is that helpful?Anyhow I am now looking out for other paediatric eye specialist to visit...
      Anyone can intro any?

I would like to share my experience here:

I have 2 kids, only the elder girl has myopia... younger boy perfect eye-sight. She has been wearing glasses since P2 and now after 2 years, her degree is 300 right and 325 left. Quite depressing as her degree actually jump 100 each year.... I even let her try the progressive lens but felt cheated when her degree increased 100 each eye in less 6 months!

Early this year, I did a research and found this - eye exercise! I get both of my kids to do every night before sleep and the outcome is encouraging!!! From March to August, my daughter eye sight only increase by 25 for her left eye!!!

U can find the different types of eye exercises in you-tube. It's FOC and you can help your kids! Just be patient...... Adult can also do together.....

      Just to share and update:
Since my last post in Sep last year, my daughter's degree did not increase. We change her spec once cos she broke it. The outcome is very good and both my kids (son has perfect eyesight) are still doing the eye exercise every night.

      Give it a try.

      Thanks! Will definitely try it.

Breez, it happened to my children as well. When HPB sent me the letter for my children, I brought them to see an eye doctor, and the power was lower than expected but they still could not see properly. The reason, I feel is because of the dilating drops, which normally shows a lower power than what is supposed to be. Anyway, if your child is 400 at primary 1, my research shows me that it will definitely progress very quickly through the years. That is the reason why i chose to put both my children on Orthok. As long as i participate in the process, it is safe. Also, find a good orthokeratologist. Another method is to put them on Atropine eye drops although they will still rely on spectacles all the time, sometimes even bifocal glasses due to the side effects of the drop. Something needs to be done to stop the myopia from getting worse too fast!

Yes it did occur to me the different results generated is it due to the dilating lotion. So meaning the eye check result from HPB is his actual degrees??
His private eye doc did not suggest myopic control program for him so far.

This term 'orthokeratologist' is very new to me. I'm not sure if he is too young for it. Is there one you can refer to me? Now not sure if i should still bring him to see his eye doc..

My son has myopic of around 275 each eye. HPB just did a check for him in school in April. Was not requested to do furtjer check.

In June (2 weeks ago), I just brought him to do follow up with his private eye doctor since he is due for follow up. I was prepared to change his glasses as I feel that he is not seeing well. But his eye doctor says the increase is only 50, 25 on each side. So she suggest I don’t change his glasses. No eye drops was given to dilate his eyes. Doc suggest we go back to see her in 3 wks time (usually 6 mths) since I raised up that he is not seeing well… puzzling to me.

I am quite certain he can’t see well so I brought him to HPB to check. With and without eye drops, both results show that he now has 400 myopic on right and 325 on left. Astig has increase as well.

If you were me, will you change his glasses? 400 is really high for a P1. I’m worried if I will overcorrect his vision. And furthermore, I’m quite frustrated that HPB test result can be more accurate than a private eye doctor??

Hi to all parents of Anderson primary,

I understand Anderson Pri offer golf for CCA. May I know if these junior golfers play this sport competitively? Any advantage for students who are already learning golf outside school? Many thanks!

      Hi jtanwt and pinkyoshi,

My child is doing alright at Blk 510. Getting use to the teachers and surroundings. Air con a bit too cold I feel. Also, I feel as parents we can’t observe much on what’s going on in class as the centre is in enclosed area. The staff also do not seem to like parents to linger too long in the morning. Other than that, everything’s just fine.
