Thanks jugglermum and yngmng. Then it makes sense. There is a pattern. Your daughters are in GEP and have not been tested recently unlike a MS child who had to go thru a GAT. Hence this coming test, whether weak or strong GEP? In any case, all the best tomorrow! Ganbatte! :rahrah:
On the contrary, this does not make sense to me šŸ˜‰

If RGS requires the GEPpers to take GAT, it is easily done as most GEPpers are already taking GAT for NYGH anyway. To send the same GAT results to RGS is easily done.

However, most of these GEPpers have certs and achievements to prove their competency in the domain they applied in, it does not make sense to ask them to take the domain test again. Afterall, their accelerated syllabus (showing good performance), plus their awards and achievements, is more than sufficient to prove their competency in the domain. Imagine MO platinum kid with high 90% in maths having to take a maths domain program for half day again, or Maths / Science Masterclass students (that is top 30 for Maths / Science chosen from whole GEP cohort). This is really waste of time and effort on both ends.

If RGS is uncertain about some GEPpers' achievements and asked that group to take the domain test, it is understandable. But to subject the large group of GEPpers to this is just puzzling and I wonder what the show is for!

Anyway, we are at the receiving end, so not our say on this. We just have to take whatever the school hand out to us. Best Wishes to all going for the domain test!

Yes, your boy has to sit for the Math domain test, which comprises of MO, sec sch and out-of-this-world math questions. This is the 'killer' test that most DSA applicants don't manage to clear, not the GAT.

I am curious....would Geppers be able to clear this \"killer\" test? Some of them are not interested in MO and not all who top the MO lists are Geppers. Maybe they have more exposure in other areas..

There is such thing called choosing your strong subject domain. Cannot expect all Geppers to be maths experts. Same for Mainstreamers. That's why RI asked for a subject domain. When I look at the top MO list though, must admit they are mainly filled by Geppers.

Pirated, I do not quite get you: do you mean "no", wrong answers are not penalised?

Can anyone please share / elaborate on the marking scheme of GAT? Is every question having the same marks?

Sharing info for parents waiting for RGS DSA result :

There is a change in releasing RGS DSA result this year. No more via email.
Regardless successful or unsuccessful applications, the results with be sent out by normal mail.

In MOE website, it states students will receive outcome of application by 31 Aug 2015.
RGS is correct to advise that the results will be out in 2 weeks' time.
Having said, the results will be released most likely next week as RGS has completed interviews.
It should be the same as last year which we received ours on the 3rd week of Aug (17 - 21)

All the best to yr DDs and looking forward to welcome you to Raffles family.
Wonder why can't RGS send by both email and normal mail? :scratchhead:
Email will be faster and normal mail also have a chance of lost in mail or sent to wrong place (even with the correct address within the estate or block). With both email and normal mail, either one will be received and prevent any misses.

NYSH is her 1st choice, dream school !
And she suppose to go St Nick interview this week!!

I supposed you meant NUSH and not NYGH? Which alphabet is the typo?

      :congrats:

      :congrats:
I am also puzzled by Puzzle's NYSH - should it be NUSH or NYGH now? :scratchhead:
And another puzzling question: how many schools did Puzzle's DD apply for and which ones? To know how many more COs to come :boogie:

No idea. But I know of someone who hasn't finished 1/3 of GAT got called up for many schools... Including NUSH, HCI and TJC.
What to make out of that?

Nush & HCI use their own selection tests, not GAT.

So these students apply to NUSH n HCi using their own P5 n P6 marks first, then if selected, sit for their own test / camp?[/quote]I heard for NUS High, all applicants will sit for Maths and Sci tests. For HCI, they will select based on submission then you are called up to sit for tests.

Sorry to say, but there is no surprises here.

I don't think DSA is about how top notch one is academically; but rather, how well the school deem the applicant to be a fit to the school in all aspects. I have heard of Gepper who scored >93% and yet wasn't given any CO from RGS.

Well, the student I described and who had been shortlisted has no other talents apart from her 2A and 2Bs. The other student I heard has EAGLES and other awards. Strange selection process. Well rounded, all rounded? ... Think it's very subjective.

Could it be the girl with 2A 2B has done exceptionally well for the GAT? I think the schools have thousands of applicants, and they probably cannot sieve through every individua'ls achievements to decide. There may be a 1st round of sieving that may be based on GAT results, and those that din't do as well in GAT (compared with rest of applicants) may not make the cut then. This applies everywhere, even for uni entry or job application whereby intake is large.

      Hi all

My DD is taking PSLE this year, may want to apply for admission to DHS via DSA sports. Her academic results have always been around 70%-76%. I am apprehensive that she will struggle if she is in DHS. Any valuable advice from current DHS students? Tia
DHS students are very hardworking and competitive, and their CCA takes up a lot of time too. If your DD is not so strong academically, she might suffer in the school. Frankly, if your DD average around 70%-76%, it is probably wiser to choose the O level route instead of the IP route.
