RE: Q&A - P5 Chinese
谢谢指点。华文课外书的故事内容和情节似乎无法引起现代小孩的兴趣,对于认字有困难的孩子来说更是打击信心。可否推荐一些适合书!感激!

MMM:
Yes, I am also worried that my ds will keep dropping lower and lower. Which enrichment centre did your dd go to? Anyone heard of HAN language Centre 汉语文中心?any recommendation for CL? Thanks!bochapdad:
Thx all for your advice. Just had the PT meeting and apparently the school allows withdrawal at P5. MMM, how did your dd improve her results? Work on past year papers?
Hi bochapdad,
Frankly I didn't even realise the requirements of HCL paper until I was working on it with my P5 ds this year. He is the type who needs more help. So my P6 dd sort of manage it on her own. It's only this year that I took a serious look at the HCL paper and then I realise yes it's not easy. So I am also helping my P5 ds to conquer it now. I intend to let him practise more assessment books and top school papers as his normal CL paper is below standard too this time round.
To begin with, my P6 dd don't hate CL. She attends enrichment lessons for CL (normal HCL + compre and compo) - 2 different lessons since P4. All along her CL results have been manageable type. She don't read CL books but she will pick up those CL comics for leisure reading. I guess it's better than nothing. Oh yes, she loves to watch those chinese drama and she told me that helped to increase her chinese vocab. Usually before HCL paper, she will ask us to test her those tingxie words and I would also give her HCL exam papers to practise. In addition, I think the school is strong in teaching them CL so it appears to all fall in place after awhile. The 1st HCL paper was like an initial shock for her and then she gradually improve to the current level. So she staggered from 50+ to 60s in P5 and high 70's now.
But I always remembered the words that her enrichment teacher told me. We need to let them regain their confidence fast if not they will stay in that range. -

For convenience, school bus is still better -- reasonably early (not too unearthly!) to drop kids off before traffic gets bad, and whether rain or shine, drop them at car porch in school without getting a drop of rain on their heads!
Since arrive around 6.35am at school, ds packs his breakfast and eats at canteen when he reaches school ... can sleep another 15 minutes more at home!
But if stay too far from CHS, can be very expensive and pick up can be unearthly hour! :snooze: -
RE: Can toddler take prune juice to aid in bowel movement?
jesuslovesme:
Can toddler of between 1-2yr old take prune juice to aid in bowel movement? My boy's bowel movement averages about every 5days which got me seriously worried :?:
Sounds very familar ... ds used to be like that since he was a baby. Yes, doctor told me prune juice helps. But don't wait till day 4 when it's all jam up inside then give prune juice. Too late.
From my own experience, different brands (some for adults some specially for babies) taste a bit differently and effect varies too. You might want to try different brands and see which one works. Those in baby bottles type was not \"powerful\" enough for ds. I used big bottles.
However, must warn you that prolong use of prune juice might be damaging to baby's teeth. Must always drink water or at least rinse mouth after prune juice.
My boy's 4 upper front teeth had major problem as he was bottle fed with prune juice, later drank from cup when he could manage. Tooth decay started very early for him and I had to search for good dentist to \"save\" whatever was left of those teeth.
Papaya, watermelon, bananas help too! -

Well, I'm not sure about band, but ds in CO said he gets to \"touch\" his instrument and practice with it in the morning.
*faint*catmum:
Yes, Band has morning practises and I think they report at 6.50am, according to a mommy that I know.
Thanks, but I really wonder the effectiveness of early morning practises.
The mommy with ds in band said the teacher told the boys that they are likely to be playing live for morning flag raising ceremonies sometime later!!! :!: Good luck!
