Any recommendations for JC physics and math tuition? Heard Physics cafe is good for physics but the fees is quite crazy.

That must have been quite a culture shock for her. I heard from friends that for math/sciences, RI (Y1-4) std seems to be higher than RGS.
Not exactly a shock, as it is kind of a well known fact that RI is pitched at a much higher level than RGS!

Is your gal currently in RA? My son said the same about the pace between RP and RA.
No RA, no H3. Just 4H2.

She was saying, no need to study also can pass in rgs. But in RI, study very hard also can fail. 😰

Anyone has any insights into A level Computer Science as a subject? Is it a big disadvantage if one doesn’t have any coding background (or O level computing)?

How did the cohort did as a whole for computing science in Singapore in the past? (I understand only very few JC offer computer science as a subject and only able to find out that 7/10 in HCI scored a distinction). Is it an ‘easy’ to score subject or a difficult one? Does one need to be very strong in math to do well in computer science?

I understand that RI started offering computer science as A level subject starting this year. Anyone has any idea how many computer science classes are there this year? What is the popular combination with computer science? Is it Physics, Computer Science, Math and Econs?

Hi, anyone can share how is RI compared to RGS? Apart from being all girls to mixed school, is it chill like RGS? Or quicker pace? So have to choose CCA again? Hope anyone can share the transitioning experience. Thanks.
According to DD1, its a big big jump and much quicker pace. Topics that are covered in a month in RGS can be covered in a week 😓 You can choose a new CCAs or continue with your existing CCA. Some CCAs (I think mainly sports CCA), you get priority or can just continue without auditions/ trials, but for most other CCAs, you have to go for trials and auditions.

Hi, anyone can share the median GPA for hcl for Sec 2 for last cohort? Is it usually lower than the usual GPA for the other subjects?

Side note, for 2020 A level batch, seems like the % of 3H2 distinctions and above for RGS girls is lower than the % for RI as a whole cohort. So i guess it means RGS girls don’t perform as well as the general cohort in RI when it come A level. I have also heard from some tutors that among the IP schools, RGS syllabus (at least for lower Sec) is one of the least advanced. Personally I feel so too, when I compare the scope (esp for maths) covered in NYGH and RGS. Of course, it does not mean RGS papers are easier ( advanced scope and difficulty of paper are 2 different things in my view).
hcl is very difficult to score and yes, its usually lower than GPA for other subjects. most girls' GPA tend to be pulled down by hcl, with very few exceptions, so don't worry too much.

DD1 in RI Y5 now. She does think that RI syllabus is more advanced than RGS so there is some kind of a gap for them to catch up. Its also true that RI boys seemed to perform better than the girls in A level for the past year(s)...

no common exam, at least not to my knowledge. DD1 felt that RI boys' standard seems to be higher at the same GPA band...

In my daughter's time (6 yrs ago), the Y4 students from both schools took a common English, Maths and Chem paper, midway through Y4, I think, because the boys didn't have normal lessons for the 2nd semester. Not sure if that's the case now. That was feedback for the teachers in both schools, and also for the JC teachers to know what to expect. I don't recall that there was any public info comparing the 2 schools. Anecdotally, the boys were supposed to be generally stronger in Maths and the girls in English. Which is not surprising - I think most people would predict that anyway!

DD1 said they no longer have common test as it is too troublesome to co-ordinate exam schedule, marking etc. RI's teaching pace is also different, due to their gap semester, so they may have covered topics that RGS has not covered. But general feeling is that RGS papers are easier than RI and median higher.

Just curious, anyone has any idea what RI's median for most subjects are? I heard they aren't as high... wonder if RGS set the paper too ''easy'' for the girls hence the high median?

      Last year 2020,

for IP4 students in both (RI and RGS) -

do IP4 students take the same, common identical exam,

      - at IP4 mid year exam and

      - at IP4 year end Promotional exam

In below following 6 subjects :-

      - English

      - Maths

      - Pure Physics

      - Pure Chem

      - Pure Bio

      - Higher Chinese,

so as to \"standardize \" marking of their IP4 students' exan scripts on a common ground basis , to choose their IP5 (RI) subject combination ?

no common exam, at least not to my knowledge. DD1 felt that RI boys' standard seems to be higher at the same GPA band...
