Hi parents šŸ™‚

I am new in this forum. I am debating on my option for my son. I am interested to register my son for South View Primary but sadly we are within between 1km-2km range.

Should I even try for the spot or should I just go for the CCK Primary which is within 1km of my house.

Anyone has a review of CCK primary?

      Thanks a lot šŸ™‚
South View balloting within 1 km. Outside 1 km don't need to try šŸ™‚

      Hi,

I understand that for P1 registration in 2012 for South View, SC within 1km require balloting. Anyone has any information on how many SC is fighting for the 39 vacancies?

      103

Furthermore, may I know that under the new ruling, SC that staying >2km has the priority to enter the school than PR staying <1km?

Yes. SC has absolute priority over PRs, i.e. PRs can only stand a chance after all SCs are admitted regardless of distance

I will need to register my boy this year, and both CCKPS and SVPS are within 1km from my place. I am not sure how possible can I enter in SVPS. When I called them yesterday, the admin told me that it is quite high chance for my boy to enter...

Depends on what you consider as high chance. Last year's probability for SVPS was 41/103, about 40% chance. Is that high?

      Should I take the risk?

Only you can answer this question. šŸ™‚

I called south view primary school ask for the information about being a PV (my girl was born in 2008, some schools start the PV application next year 2012). The lady said, any PV of south view is not open yet...even for kids born in 2007. Then what does this mean? what should we do? I live within 1 km of this school.

Call the school in one year's time, i.e. Dec 2012. South View normally open their PV application in April, 2 years before commencement of P1. i.e. P1 in 2015, Apr 2013 application starts. You may also want to check the school's website for updates on PV application.

      From SVPS Web Site:
Applications for parent volunteers for registration of children for admission to Primary 1 in 2014 will begin from 1 Apr 2012 till 30 Jun 2012.
SVPS took in 15 PVs last year and 10 this year so the chances are quite slim. Aside from PVs, the other route would be through volunteering as Grass Roots Leaders who will also be under the same phase as Parent Volunteers, i.e. Phase 2B.

I was told out of 138 applicants for CCKPS, 130 applicants falls into <1KM. All 130 <1km will get the seats and the remaining 8 applicants will need to ballot for the remaining 1 seat. Is this how it works or should all 138 applicants ballot for the 131 seats?

Yes you are right that all 130 within 1 km will be successful and the remaining 8 applicants who fall within 1-2 km will ballot for the 1 remaining seat. Anyone outside 2 km will be unsuccessful.

I stay very near to SV. After taking into consideration the number of applicants under phase 2c, i decided to enrol my girl in CCKPS (both within 1km).

For parents balloting for sv on 5 Aug, best of luck...
Yes I believe quite a number of parents did that. This year CCKPS will need to ballot for 2C.

Does any one know the breakdown for <1Km and 1-2Km for SV.

We will check our luck on 5th Aug -)
For SV, 102 applicants are within 1 km. Those outside 1 km were advised by the school not to register there. 20 SPRs, 82 SCs.
Anyone can advise if there is any assessment conducted during the Orienation Day?

How does the kid split into the class?

Yes there will be assessment conducted during the Orientation Day but the purpose is to identify pupils who need additional learning support and not to \"stream\" them. Pupils are assigned to classes randomly.

Do they know their class on Orientation Day? On first few days of school, is there any talk for parents?
Parents will be notified of the class assigned before Orientation Day. There will be talks for parents on the first 2 days of school.
