      hi

my boy wil be i JC1 next year.

He considering between GP and Knowledge Inquiry. Yes, in EJC.

Are ther any parents here whose children had taken Knowledge Inquiry before or currently?
How are they going to be tested during the A levels ? Written just like GP ?
My dd said that KI is not like GP. It is epistemology.

Hi parents, transitioning from NYPS to NYGH, I was initially only considering keeping tuition for Chinese. But I heard from current NYGH students that the teachers are very supportive and can approach them for extra consultation - which is great! Do you think not having Chinese tuition at Sec 1 is okay to cope with the secondary Chinese syllabus? I realise you won't know my kid's calibre to comment much. But she is a high A Chinese kid (88% thereabouts), compo can range from 26-34, but mostly just 30-31, and currently supported with Chinese tuition. Just asking for 一般来讲 situation , if no Chinese tuition lifeline, can a kid cope with Chinese in Sec 1?

Or you might tell me, the Chinese standard is really crazy high in NYGH, then I know already, I will keep the Chinese tuition and chope the tutor's time. Hard to come by good tutors, and even places in popular Chinese tuition centre will get snapped up.
I was in similar situation as you a few years ago. As my DD hardly speak Chinese at home, I thought it might be good to maintain her level of proficiency by continuing her Chinese tuition. Further more this is SAP school and not easy to get a good Chinese tutor. Also not sure whether the school teachers can stimulate her interest or how much written/oral practices given.
She had tuitions for 3 and half years roughly (stop in Term 2 Y4 ). Her grades ranged from A1 to B3. In year 4, my DD felt that school's preparation was good enough. Maybe she had reached her potential as to no amount of tuition has any further effect.
Without tuition and my expectation of her obtaining B4 (minimum), she was more motivated and focused and was able to maintain her grade 😓 and subsequently got her A in 'O' HCL exam. Personally I think her Y4 CL teacher and school did a good job.
So whether to go for tuition or not, really depends on your DD, your expectation, school CL teachers and tutors.

Not sure if this is the right forum to ask but anyone know on the difference in culture between NGHS and RGS? I assume some parents here have gone through some thought process before ending here but what made you choose NGHS vs RGS ? Is distance also a factor? One parent told me not to let distance hinder your child if it is a really good school like NGHS or RGS. Any parents can give some advice ? Greatly appreciate as dd likes both school.

I realized that the promotion criteria is different. Especially for whether a student needs to take CL at year 5. For NYGH, if score more than B4 in HCL then will need to take CL at HCI (JC1) but no need in RGS unless score less than C6. Maybe this is due to NYGH being a SAP school?
This is true during my dd's time.
