    • RE: MRT breakdown

      jetsetter:
i can understand why N-S line always breaks down cos it's a 必经之路 for many working adults in populous estates from Jurong East, Woodlands, Yishun, YCK, AMK, Bishan, TPY, Novena & Newton (many new condos now) all the way to Raffles Place > Tg Pagar.

If u study the geography of Singapore, u notice that our CBD is concentrated at the south, meaning there's no ingression/egression fr south of CBD, unlike capital cities like Paris, London smacked in the heart of a vast country where commuters ingress/egress N, S, E, W. Dunno why MOT never talked to MND on planning...

The situation got WORSE after MBFC was built south to Raffles Place! However, the pace of MRT devt isn't in tandem with that of office bldgs in the new south...hence the over-working of our archaic NS line. Raffles Pl is a mad house at peak hr - pp walking like robots at triple the normal speed to connect to MBFC and Asia Square etc. Those changing to Tg Pagar are sprinting too.

The prob can only be eased when Thomson line is completed in 2019. It runs parallel to NS line so it'll take away half (?) the traffic from NS line. Those living in Springleaf/Lentor can avoid YCK which is crazy in the mornings. Those living near Braddell View/Balestier can perhaps take from Caldecott instead of Bishan/TPY.

West ingress into Raffles Pl not so bad cos the abled working adults live mostly in Clementi and beyond...Outram, Redhill, Tiong Bahru, Queenstown mostly retirees, so they don't cramp up the trains. Those living the East do experience congestions cos there're many working adults needing to get to Raffles Plc too, but at least they hv a Changi DistriPark and Tampines satellite to divert some working pp from CBD.

Govt need to speed up the devt of Woodlands biz district so northerners can consider working near the straits, instead of at Marina Bay district.

Meanwhile, let's get used to more breakdowns!
I declare I am already used to these breakdowns. How about that?

    • RE: Downtown line breakdown ?

      A better tomorrow:
Heard that there was a breakdown that happened on the first day of opening for 15 minutes . :skeptical:

Just now when I was going home by mrt , I saw a board saying that there was train disruption at the downtown line from bugis to Chinatown :yikes:
I really wonder what has happened to our mrt nowadays 🤷
Your nick and your thread......such irony.
