[quote="Canvas"]My DS is a transfer student whose conduct and results were excellent in his previous school. He knows CHS is a good school and has been active in trying to fit in and make friends, however he has been feeling rather upset with this very senior English teacher who seems to micromanage and picking on him a little. DS, like me, tends to make even more mistakes when being micro managed. Sigh! Can only hope he doesn’t step on the teacher’s toes again
Hi, I had same experience as you last year, my son also transfer student, he was not able to handle both some of classmates and teachers at beginning. As mother I did a lot to help him to fit into the new enviorment. Not complain but try to understand and advice my son how to handle… My advice to you the school just started one month, try to convince your son to familiar with new culture of the school, and differnt habits of teachers’. Is he only have problem with one teacher or most of teachers… try to hear from other teachers feedback… do some background work before you go and " feedback " someone… on the other hand, it may be also an opportunity for DS to experience themselves to handle new people… I am very happy that after about 3 to 4 month adjustment, my son getting more like the school…and finally settle with all his friends and do like his "old naggy" English teachers… remember, you son needs a lot of support from parents in this new enviorment…

There are two HDB car park at Bishan St 24( leads towards pri school entrance). Usually park at left side will be more convenient, as one of the gate directly link to school side gate.Hello, tmr CHS will be celebrating CNY and parents are invited to join the boys at 11 am to 12:30pm.
just wanted to ask whether we are allowed to park inside the school ?
If not, where would be the nearest car park ?
Thanks for advice
From St 22 after turn into St24, see the 1st side road, turn left then can see car park... should be easy. -

Hi, Mummies and Daddies:
Anyone can advice me two thing:
1) How usually Chinese teacher request kids practice ”习字“,how many times he need to write, My DS kind of blur, know need to write but forget how many times teacher request to write. (p4)
2) Usually other school will ask kids to sit for \"new south wales\" test, how about CHS ?
2) yes CHS also let students sit for NSW (includes math, science, computer, english, english writing). All students can sign up. No need to be selected. The school will be giving the application form in the early part of the year, just look out for it.
Hi, Careermum:
thank you very much for your info. very helpful. -

Hi, Figaro and other mummies, thanks for your interesting sharing. Though my son is not same grade as yours but I think the activies are same and he quite enjoy. When I ask him have you wrote an academic goal today, he was very suprised, how can I know...I told him I got magic info... :imcool:Yes, I'm fortunate my DS is quite observant and I try to chit chat with him everyday to learn what happened in class. The 8 newbies were all assigned with buddies... and everyone had to complete worksheets on their academic and personal goals, plus the observations from the follow the leader game they played. My DS said one boy wrote that his academic goal is to get into MIT... wah
very motivated!
Careermum (and other forummers here) - do you enrol your sons in the HCL Chinese Language Centre which was supposedly started by a former Cat High Chinese teacher? I heard many Cat High boys have Chinese classes there. When I visited them a few weeks ago, they told me more than 50% of their students are from Cat High... Are the classes there really good? How do they compare with Berries or Tien Hsia? Also thinking whether the Compo/Compre is better, or the normal Chinese tuition class. Appreciate any feedback or experience you have with this centre!

Here, thanks to all mummy’s talk about uniform buttons, socks… very useful information. Now understand why buttons need a long discussion, finally bought all the items needed for the new start of my boy… looking forward to his 1st school day in CHS…
