Hi, I have two kids currently in the school. For P1, life is rather relaxed. CCAs are optional too. No after classes unless the child is selected for extra classes if they are deemed to be weak.

:udawoman: :congrats:My sacrifices of quiting my job to be with DS for P5 & P6 finally paid off. He did above our expectation getting 4As in all his subjects although he cannot get into his \"dream school\" but he definitely qualify for his second choice.
DS is a wild card average boy and his sch term exams were like stock mkt ~ up and down. So DH and I agreed that I have to be with him to push and guide him; making sure he goes for his tuitions and practice his assement papers regularly and diligently. I had even drawn up a timeline to show him a bigger and clearer picture to track the count down to psle deadline.We make sure he knows we are with him all the way.
It was such a moment of reward to see his eyes beam and twinkle when he turned and smile at us. We know we have done the right things and there is no regrets.... = ) -

I don know whether is ur boss married with kids. Normally, i felt that those without kids won't understand the problems we with Kids going through. Not that we are KS, we just want to prepare our kid early so that he/ she won't feel the stress when the exam date are nearby. -

Yes,academics is important but secondary to the efforts put in for the exams. As a mother, I do not want to regret one day that I was not there for my kids during the crucial milestone. I would like to think that whatever the results may be,I have tried my best. Even if academics wise may not improve , I'm sure the bonding will be stronger than ever,just like in your case.
I started my NPL during the end of year hols Given the choice, I would do it all over again. It may or may not have any impact on his results (we will know on Friday :nailbite: ) but my bond with my DS is stronger than ever and being witness to how he diligently ploughed through the PSLE year makes me so glad that I took the plunge.
I know when tmr comes, you will be proud of your son when he stands to receive his results. I think when the day comes for me, I'll be proud for both of us too. -

I can't even get NPL for 1 year. Don't even need to think about 2 years.
NPL for 2 years will be the best (you can go back to work in Oct as PSLE is usually conducted in Oct). If you really have to choose, I suggest P5 one year NPL and P6 take your annual leave when needed.
In any case, I have decided to stop working by Jan next year. -

p5 would be more appropriate to take NPL to plan and coach. if there are any hiccups, there is still time. p6 would be a super packed 9 months. p5 is also a year new topics are introduced and there is a steep learning curve. manage p5 well so that p6 will not be so stressful.
Yes I fully agree with you. That's why i suggest p5 to my boss. But she does not understand the rationale and feels that I am very KS. In fact, she told me that I will drive my son crazy if I stay at home to coach him. :siao: -

I am from public sector. A number of my colleagues resigned when their kids reached P5 and 6. Those who took no pay leave will have to respond to office queries at home as and when required, that is the understanding. Staff on no pay leave can only resume duty if there is a vacancy else one loses her job. So if one treasures her job, she better does as told. Same as those on maternity leave - work at home. Appointment holders will lose their appointment if they take no pay leave.
I have not heard of such a thing that staff on no paid leave still needs to entertain work. As for returning only when there are vacancies,yes,it applies to me too if my no paid leave is approved. There's no more guaranteed return. -

Yes,imagine my shock when I heard it coming from her who is also a mother. Her kids are grown up now but I am amazed at her reaction.
nothing I can say to change her mind. She is totally unconvinced at my reasons. Well,to he fair to her,there are a few resignations recently and she cited this as a reason not to approve my request.
The decision whether to give me is up to her. She's the boss but I certainly am not happy over how she belittle my wish to focus on my family. -

I'm working in the government sector and I asked to take unpaid leave, but was rejected too. In fact, my boss told me that academics are not important in this era :yikes: and she cannot understand my rationale on the unpaid leave. Ultimately, it depends on the company culture and the bosses.That's why I am leaving corporate world.Someone in teaching line ever told me. Those students who are able perform well in her class, most of them, their parents are very supportive.
I envy those mother who are able to take long term no pay leave from their company.
I am working in PTE sector, if I suggest to take long term no pay leave, I think my boss will tell me to tender instead.
It's not without fear and inner turmoil to do so, but it's something close to my heart and I firmly believe that a SAHM would be able to give support to the kid and help the kid to manage better. With more time, I also forsee myself to be able to manage my own expectations better. :boogie:
