You may already know this, but one other consideration is whether the school hosts MSP in-house (don't need to travel to MOELC).

Generally speaking, the schools that offer in-house are the SAP schools (not all but most), schools offering RSP, and a few zonal centers/other.

Otherwise or if Bishan MOELC is on the way home, just go with whatever language you are more interested in learning.

https://www.moe.gov.sg/schoolfinder?journey=Secondary%20school&q=*&fq=school_journey_ss%3A%22Secondary%20school%22&fq=subjects_offered_ss%3A%28%22Malay%20Language%20%28Special%20Programme%29%22%29&fl=*&sort=school_name_s%20asc
Thanks for the pointer! Yes we are aware that the MSP is offered in some schools. Unfortunately, the school we are aiming for does not offer that. Thankfully tho, MOELC (Bishan) is a 23 min journey away, with a direct bus, so i think it’s still fine. Thanks again 🙂

Hi fellow parents,

We are trying to decide between Malay and Bahasa Indonesia as a third language for our daughter. We are slightly inclined towards Bahasa Indonesia, and managed to find out that classes are held at MOELC Bishan (instead of Newton).

I saw from scrolling through the thread that there are multiple classes held daily for Malay, at MOELc.

Does anyone know which day Bahasa Indonesia classes are held? We are planning ahead and wish to avoid clash with school CCA days. Thanks very much!

Not everybody is suited to do IB. If your teacher recommends him to do IB, i would say \"go for it\". :congrats:

Shd get into choices 1, 2 or 3. 4-6 can put anything for fun.

:thankyou: i wonder if we should put other IP schools instead of ACS O levels too.. since he can technically skip the O levels. Maybe i am overthinking this...

My ds finished IB last yr. He had DSA CO/WL fr IB and IP A levels. He was initially inclined to A level. But I'm glad he enjoyed his 6 years IB very much.
I've seen quite a few ACS o levels switched to IB at yr 3. Most of them had missed Yr 1 IB narrowly. Also they did consistently well in yr1 and y2.
It's so comforting to hear from others who've been through this before, that they've enjoyed their IB experience. Thanks so much, Zeemimi 😄

Choosing a suitable school is your son's choice, neither his form teacher's recommendation nor parents' preferences. With a T-Score of 261, he should be able to enroll any of the schools (as a boy). So ask your son which school he really likes. If he prefers ACSI and put it as 1st choice, the 2nd to 6th choice will not matter any more as ACSI COP won't go up to 261.

Thanks for the reply. We have tried to involve our son in the decision-making process, and we attended a few open houses in P5 before the pandemic hit. He is fine with either RI and ACS(I) IB, recognising the pros and cons of each. Upon talking to him, I think the tipping factor for us is also his concern that he'll be placed in the last class at RI, given that he is just 2 points above the COP for RI. We are thinking of trying the public transport route from our house to ACS(I) and let him decide if he can live with this for 6 years...

Hi, there is no such thing as \"last class\" in RI. Other than the GEP students who are placed in GEP classes, all the other students are mixed. Those who entered via DSA are also evenly distributed into these regular classes.
Thanks for the info! My son was affected because he went for lunch together with his dad and his dad's old schoolmates from RI, and the bunch of old schoolmates were teasing one of them for just meeting the CoP years ago, landing in the \"last class\" and eventually appealing to the best class. I guess times have changed, so thanks for the updated info!

Hi

My son scored 261, and we were struggling between RI (cos it’s nearer to our house) and ACS(I) IB (cos his form teacher commented my son is more suited to IB).

ACS(I) is really quite far from where we stay (we stay near Potong Pasir) but i think we have more or less settled on placing that as our first choice.

I don’t really know what to put for his 2nd - 6th option though. I read some comments which mentioned that the COP can fluctuate up to 8 points (!!) so i think we shouldn’t take getting into ACS (I) for granted. Right now, my thoughts are:

1) ACS (I) IB
2) ACS o level (cos can try to get into IB at year 3, if COP drastically changes this year)
3) SJI IB
4) - 6) ????

We prefer boys’ schools..thanks in advance for any advice given!

Can I check if your son is eligible for ESIS? Thanks.

Yes he did 🙂
